Birch Expands Metro Fiber Network

Birch Communications has added 130,000 buildings to its metro fiber footprint, bringing the total to more than 550,000.

These latest additions mark the fifth major network expansion in the past 12 months, and another advancement toward the 1 million building goal set for 2016.

In addition, Birch also controls an IP network, which spans 65 major markets across North America and is comprised of 32,000 route-miles and 715 points of presence (PoPs).

Deploying additional metro fiber assets continue to be a major part of Birch’s overall growth strategy for 2016.  The company plans to expand bandwidth-rich services to another 600 central offices throughout the U.S. in the coming months, as well as build more network interconnection agreements with additional carriers to meet rising demand.
