Lightower Expands Fiber Footprint in Downtown Philly

Lightower Fiber Networks has expanded its all-fiber footprint throughout downtown Philadelphia, including in the area surrounding Broad St., Market St., JFK Blvd. and Chestnut Ave.

In addition to the new network downtown, Lightower also maintains more than 16,000 square feet of colocation space at 401 N. Broad, enabling enterprise customers implementing cloud solutions, an disaster recovery and business continuity (DRBC) strategies.

Philadelphia, the nation’s fifth largest city, is home to a large and diverse base of enterprise businesses, universities, health care organizations and more. New programs under Mayor Michael Nutter’s administration are being credited for attracting businesses back to the city. For example, the city has been rapidly attracting startups and growing technology companies to the downtown area.

“Adding to our network presence in downtown Philadelphia is an important step for Lightower as we continue to aggressively expand in existing markets and into new markets,” said Rob Shanahan, CEO of Lightower. “Philadelphia is home to so many of the industries that already take advantage of Lightower technology, including high tech, education, health care, financial services and other enterprises. We look forward to continuing to invest in the Philadelphia area as organizations experience Lightower’s performance networking.”

Lightower’s suite of all-fiber solutions available to customers in downtown Philadelphia includes Ethernet, wavelengths, dedicated Internet access, dark fiber, private networks, data center and cloud connectivity and video transport.

Over the past five years, Lightower has expanded throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and Greater Chicago area and now operates an all-fiber network of more than 20,000 route miles, providing service to over 7,500 locations. Philadelphia customers have access to all Lightower service locations, including commercial buildings, data centers, financial exchanges, telco hotels and other critical interconnection facilities.
