Better Days Ahead So, while the COVID-19 pandemic may have halted nearly a decade of steady growth, the report suggests better days may be ahead. According to the report, The Organization for Economic Co-Opera- tion and Development predicts the global economy will grow 5.8 percent this year, and the U.S. economy grew 6.4 percent during Q121. But econom - ic growth and job growth are different measures. Many jobs lost during the post-pandemic recession have not returned. Some believe that as federal unemployment benefits available through the stimulus programs expired in September, many people will again look for work. Or, as the study states, there may be structural changes in job markets, leading to imbalances between skills needed and skills available. Either way, “IT organizations may find it difficult to hire all the skills needed, creating additional incentives for automation, both within IT and within organizations generally,” the Computer Economics study states.
