Comcast Business has signed an agreement to acquire Nitel, a U.S. managed services provider headquartered in Chicago, from international private equity firm Cinven. The acquisition will expand Comcast Business’ presence in connectivity, global secure networking and advanced technology and enhance Comcast’s ability to serve enterprise clients, said the company. Nitel specializes in delivering advanced managed services and connectivity solutions to enterprise customers across the U.S. It provides integrated managed network and security solutions to 6,600 clients across the country, with a strong focus on mid-size enterprise clients, including those in financial services, healthcare and education. “Nitel is a dynamic player in managed network services, and its addition to our portfolio will strengthen our capabilities in advanced network, cloud and cybersecurity solutions,” said Edward Zimmermann, president, Comcast Business. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. As a result of the transaction, international private equity firm Cinven will sell its stake in Nitel. Financial terms were not disclosed. ICYMI Granite Telecommunications finalized an agreement to become an authorized reseller of Starlink. The deal will allow Granite to resell Starlink LEO satellite network services, providing an additional solution for high-speed, low-latency internet to enterprise customers virtually anywhere in the U.S. and Canada. As an enhancement to Starlink service, Granite integrates Starlink kits with its patented edgebootPro solution. This advanced, managed power-distribution unit (PDU) leverages AI-driven capabilities to promote continuous connectivity, proactive monitoring, diagnostics and automated failover response. Combined with Granite managed network services and an intuitive user portal, the integration streamlines network management for multilocation businesses and governmental agencies, while maximizing Starlink’s resiliency, said the company. In its most recent earnings call, T-Mobile said it added 428,000 fixed wireless access (FWA) high-speed internet customers in the fourth quarter of 2024, compared with the 409,000 forecasted by analysts. “Every quarter we see a little bit of ebbs and flows in terms of high-speed internet,” said chief financial officer Peter Osvaldik. “That relative mix changes quarter to quarter. In Q4, we saw strong demand for our high-speed broadband product from existing customers.” T-Mobile also hopes its expansion into satellite mobile connectivity — through partnerships with SpaceX’s Starlink and Apple — will drive the uptake of more bundled services. “This is a differentiated service that we think touches a chord with the American public, the idea of being connected everywhere,” said CEO Mike Sievert. “If you can see the sky, you’re connected.” The company also added 903,000 monthly phone customers, beating the 865,000 average of analysts’ estimates. The company said it expects to gain between 5.5 million and 6 million new monthly customers in 2025. It added 6.1 million in 2024.
