Put simply, the 6GHz band allows for internet speeds of greater than 1Gbps, and increased spectrum means lower latency (less than one millisec- ond) for online games, video calls or virtual computing sessions. Frustrations Relieved The frustration of not being able to connect to your Wi-Fi network because of spectrum congestion caused by too many devices trying to connect over the same band of frequencies should be relieved with Wi-Fi 6E, because it offers a new band of airwaves for routers to use and a spacious swath that doesn’t require overlapping signals. The new spectrum has enough room for up to seven maximum-capaci- ty Wi-Fi streams to be broadcast simul- taneously without interfering with each other. To be more specific, the FCC is opening 1,200MHz of spectrum in the 6GHz band. This quadruples the total space available to traditional Wi-Fi. For the past two decades, Wi-Fi has been operating with roughly 400MHz of spectrum, and all available channels had to be split within that limited space. Channels on the 6GHz band are expected to be 160MHz each in size. Only two channels at that size could fit inside the currently available airspace. Wi-Fi 6E devices leverage these wider channels and additional capacity to deliver greater network performance and support more Wi-Fi users at once, even in very dense and congested environments. Wi-Fi 6E will bring greater technology advancements in Wi-Fi that will introduce new use cases, such as unified communica - tions, cloud computing and telepres- ence. It also is expected to accelerate the next generation connectivity with 5G networks, said proponents. According to the Alliance, Wi-Fi 6E provides the capacity, efficiency, coverage and performance required in the most demanding Wi-Fi environ- ments. Alliance marketing leader Kevin Robinson is calling the IEEE’s actions “the most monumental decision around Wi-Fi spectrum in its history, in the 20 years we’ve been around.” Quality Connection Emphasizing quality connectivity in locations with hundreds or thousands of connected devices such as stadi- ums and other public venues, as well as corporate networks using time- sensitive, high-bandwidth applications, Wi-Fi certified 6 networks ensure each connected device performs at an optimum level. Wi-Fi certified 6 devices also meet the highest standards for security and interoperability and enable lower battery consumption, making it a great choice for any environment, including the internet of things (IoT). The Alliance lists the benefits of Wi-Fi certified 6 technology as higher data rates, increased capacity, perfor- mance in environments with many connected devices and improved MOBILE & WIRELESS Conceptual Model of Service-Initiated ZTNA Effects of Advanced Wireless within Three Years Wi-Fi 6 Shipment Forecast Source: Deloitte Advanced wireless networking will transform our company say it will transform their organization say it will transform their industry Now Less than 1 year In 1-3 years In 3-5 years Beyond 5 years May never substantially transform Advanced wireless networking will transform our industry Top Challenges Source: Channel Pul Register Application Source: Gartner Source: IDC, 2020 Connect to Provider Authentication Verify Identity Session Established Hours Spent Partners Ineffective Sale Inefficient Acc Insufficien Not E Inadequate Partner Mi Improve Alignment of B Help Partners Migra To interconn telcos, Why does your organ (Please select all th Regul To access renewable e (e.g. for loT data, or ke Lack skills Ran out of ente Colocation Source: 451 Resear Source: Viavi Solu Unsure None Up to 10 hours More than 10 hours 6% 22% 4% 21% 53% 78% 15% 2% 4% 41% 69% 23% 4% 3% 3 5 4 2 1 2018 2019 Billion 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 0 0.5 1 1.5 2 2.5 3 3.5 4 4.5 5 3 1 2 3 4 5 ZTNA Broker/Proxy Enterprise Directory of IdaaS ZTNA Connector End-User Device Application Wi-Fi 6E Wi-Fi 6 Wi-Fi By the Numbe s 2021 Source: Cisco, IDC, Telecom Advisory Services, Wi-Fi Alliance devices in use cumulative device shipments economic value annual device shipment mobile traffic offloaded to Wi-Fi global public access points Wi-Fi 6E device shipments Wi-Fi 6 device shipments $3.3 trillion 4.2 trillion 500+ million 338 million 2.2 billion 16.4 billion 37.5 billion 63% certification starts 30 CHANNEL V ISION | May 2021
