And while some things are now different, such as tempera- ture checks, distancing space and other COVID-19 safety protocols, were confident most will consider this return to business as welcomed and familiar. Similarly, veterans of former CVx @ ITEXPO events held in Miami Beach might notice some changes to the Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC). This comes courtesy of $620 million in recent renova- tions. For starters, there is approximately 200,000 more square feet of total space in the facility to accommodate social distancing. There’s also 3.1 acres of new public green space (Collins Canal Park) to the north of the CC, as well as 5.8 acres of public green space (Pride Park) to the west. Although there is plenty to keep attendees busy at CVx @ ITEXPO, we hope you have a few moments of downtime to relax in one of these new green spaces or take in the $7.1 million dollars’ worth of new art install- ments curated by the City of Miami Beach Art in Public Places program. In terms of new on-site tech, the renova- tions included free Wi-Fi in all common areas and meeting rooms provided by Smart City and up to 400 Bluetooth-enabled beacons to support venue wayfinding apps. Also good news, the MBCC is working to achieve Silver LEED certification, as the renovations included sustainability initiatives such as rain harvesting for utilizing in cooling towers, reduced flow water fixtures, sun shading on exterior perimeters, daylighting public spaces, high-efficiency LED lighting and occupancy light sensors throughout the building.
