Consortium Demonstrates SDN-based Reach Planning in Multi- Vendor Field Trial European industry consortium SENDATE has announced the suc- cessful completion of an industry-first multi-vendor SDN field trial featuring real-time planning of transparent high- speed services across a disaggre- gated, multi-domain optical network. The SENDATE trial showcased the critical role that standards-based SDN interworking and integrated planning play in simplifying operations and re- ducing end-to-end provisioning times in multi-domain, disaggregated optical networks, said the group. Conducted in the Telia Company R&D lab in Stockholm with live con- nectivity to production network fibers, the multi-vendor, multi-domain trial included participation from optical networking and SDN solution suppli- ers and research partners, including ADVA, Coriant, highstreet technologies, VPIphotonics and the RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. Based on the SENDATE SDN Con- trol Architecture, the multi-vendor trial configuration was designed to demon- strate end-to-end wavelength service activation between disaggregated transponders spanning SDN-enabled ADVA and Coriant optical domains. Use cases tested during the trial included dynamic optical reach planning using open APIs and SDN-enabled 100G and 200G alien wavelength provisioning across multi-vendor optical domains. The successful interworking leveraged an extension of the standardized ONF T-API interface significantly enhanced and extended with optical impairment capabilities for automated network planning. The SDN controller was based on OpenDaylight with an inte- grated photonic planning app running as a micro-service. PCCWGlobal has launched a global SD-WAN service designed to simplify multi- site WAN deployments and optimize traffic in real time. The service intelligently routes traffic over a preferred network path using a combination of IP-MPLS, broadband and 4G LTE connections. It’s also transport agnostic, so enterprises can make use of an existing PCCWGlobal MPLS network or connectivity provided by another service provider. SD-WAN complements PCCWGlobal’s existing Console Connect service, a global SDI platform that provides automated, se- cure and predictable connectivity between the data center and business partners, major cloud service providers and business-critical applications across the globe, said the com- pany. More than 80 countries will be covered during the initial launch phase of the service, which will continue to be expanded through both PCCWGlobal’s existing network as well as third-party providers’ networks.
