34 CHANNELVISION | 2026 TSD DIRECTORY Artificial intelligence is no longer a future concept in telecommunications – it’s an operational reality. And more importantly, it’s creating a significant advantage for telecom aggregators and the Channel. At its core, AI transforms telecom from a reactive, infrastructure-heavy business into a predictive, intelligencedriven platform. Networks are no longer static – they are learning, adapting and self-optimizing in real time. AI-powered systems can predict congestion, reroute traffic automatically and even self-heal before outages impact users. You can feel that momentum across the industry event circuit. From channel gatherings such as ITEXPO and Channel Partners to wholesale forums such as International Telecoms Week, the conversation is increasingly centered on how AI is reshaping the telecom ecosystem – for customers, technology services distributors (TSDs); technology advisors (TAs); communications service providers such as NHC; and the carriers, network equipment makers and software suppliers that power the market behind the scenes. For the Channel, this is a gamechanger. AI feels a bit like the beginning of a roller coaster ride: you settle into your seat with some trepidation; the anxiety builds as the car climbs that first steep hill and then suddenly … off you go. We are on a high-speed journey that may prove to be the biggest opportunity since the start of the internet. Rather than fear the ride, the Channel should face it head-on and seize the opportunities it will create. First, our Channel stands to benefit from surging bandwidth demand; a growing range of carrier and supplier options; and the enormous investment now pouring into the infrastructure, platforms and services required to support AI development and delivery. AI drives operational efficiency at scale. Telecom providers are using AI for network automation, predictive maintenance and service assurance – reducing downtime and eliminating manual processes. The result is lower operating costs and higher service reliability – two outcomes that directly strengthen the value proposition channel partners bring to their customers. Second, AI is unlocking new revenue opportunities. By analyzing massive datasets – from usage patterns to customer behavior – AI enables highly personalized offerings and targeted upsell opportunities. Operators leveraging AI-driven personalization are seeing measurable increases in revenue and average revenue per user (ARPU). That’s where TSDs and TAs win. Better data insight means partners can position smarter solutions, not just connectivity. The conversation shifts from “price per circuit” to “business outcomes delivered.” Third, AI dramatically improves customer experience. Intelligent virtual assistants, predictive support and proactive issue resolution are becoming standard. AI can reduce service complaints and streamline support, often resolving issues before the customer even notices there were problems. For Channel partners, this translates into stronger customer relationships, reduced churn and higher lifetime customer value – key drivers of long-term residual revenue. Fourth, AI enhances security and fraud detection. Telecom networks process enormous volumes of sensitive data, making them prime targets for fraud. AI-driven anomaly detection identifies threats in real time and significantly improves security posture. Again, that’s a value-add opportunity for communications service providers like NHC – not just selling connectivity but delivering secure, intelligent communications ecosystems. Perhaps most importantly, AI accelerates time-to-market. Automation allows providers to roll out new services faster and at lower cost, giving CSPs a broader, more competitive portfolio to take to market and get to bill more quickly. The bottom line is this: AI is not a threat to our Channels revenue growth – it is accelerating it. AI will help the Channel deliver faster outcomes, manage traffic flows more intelligently, strengthen network security and improve management reporting. In a market where connectivity is increasingly commoditized, intelligence is the differentiator, and AI gives the Channel a chance to lead with both confidence and purpose. This is not a moment to sit back. It is a moment to embrace the ride, conquer the opportunity and help shape the next era of telecom. o Glen Nelson is a 40-year veteran of the telecommunications industry and is co-founder, VP marketing & business development at NHC, The Communications Stack Provider and one of the largest partner-exclusive network resellers in North America.
