Some have said that optical fiber needs no lawmaker or policy advocacy, and to the extent that is true today, it seems change is coming. Our members have deployed as much or more fiber in rural areas than any other association, but the costs of maintaining a fiber-based outside plant have led other associations to begin advocating for access to federal funds to support the operating expenses (OpEx) of such infrastructure, not just the capital expenses (CapEx) covered by BEAD and other subsidy programs. This is a topic WISPA will soon need to address, and we invite your participation in our Policy and Government Affairs committees which guide our priorities on your behalf. “Learn. Build. Compete.” WISPAPALOOZA 2025 features policy discussions and sessions on operations, finance, marketing, managed services and technology that provide practical knowledge and the opportunity to build new connections. Don’t miss the Emerging Tech Showcase which will debut the industry’s next big ideas, with eight companies unveiling new solutions, live. Innovation doesn’t wait, and neither should you. We invite your participation in the WISPA Educational Institute’s Future Solutions committee which will help us frame and answer the big question, “What’s next?” As we know, broadband is no longer a “best efforts” service. PostCOVID, it has become a “must have,” so let’s build upon our inherent resiliency and demonstrate our capacity for “nailed down, always on” service. The communities we serve expect and deserve nothing less. Over the next four days, let’s celebrate how far we’ve come, confront the challenges ahead, and embrace the opportunities ahead. Thank you for being here, for all you do to keep America connected, and for making WISPAPALOOZA the can’t-miss event of the year. Here’s to an exciting, productive and inspiring week together.
