Crowded SD-WAN Market Demands Differentiation Service providers offering SD-WAN grew every quarter in 2019. It is an increasingly crowded market that can be difficult for enterprises to navigate. SD-WAN adoption increased from 35 percent to 54 percent between 2017 and 2019, and 36 percent of enterpris- es are actively researching the tech- nology, according a report from IDG Research Services and Masergy. The report notes that future adoption rates could reach more than 90 percent. As enterprises make their move to SD-WAN, they will be looking for dif- ferentiation in offerings as well as pro- viders that have networking expertise. Basic overlay networks will not be as compelling as solutions that have been built on owned infrastructure by net- working experts.They want to work with organizations that understand both the software world as well as networking. Only the Beginning for Digital Transformation It feels like the world is changing rapidly, but digital transformation is still in its infancy. IDC estimates that 40 per- cent of all technology spending is allo- cated to digital transformation technolo- gies, which exceeded $2 trillion in 2019. Despite the huge sum being spent on transformation, it is still only ramping. Direct digital transformation investment is expected to grow at a compound an- nual growth rate of 17.5 percent from 2020 to 2023, where it is set to ap- proach $7.1 trillion, according to IDC. While digitizing processes and in- vesting in new technologies is a crucial aspect of an enterprise’s digital trans- formation journey, it forms a small part of the bigger picture. Digital transformation not only re- quires change in terms of the technolo- gies used, but also in terms of com- pany culture. For digital transformation to truly accelerate, people need to be willing to change their outlook and move on from legacy approaches, in order to accept a better, more efficient way of working. Transformation will again accelerate in 2020 and enterprises will embrace continual transformation as part of their business strategy. It has no end and we will see the enterprise understand this to accelerate their growth and con- tinually create competitive advantages through digitization. As we enter a new decade, the only guarantee is that it will be filled with just as much change as we have seen during the last 10 years. From 2010 to 2020, the enterprise IT market has grown to become a critical driver for business success for enterprises of all sizes.
