intrusions. GDPR has sparked interest in new tools and technolo- gies to help companies detect and mitigate threats before they become major issues. One technology that is receiving a great deal of attention is artificial intelligence (AI). “AI helps with GDPR by get- ting ahead of the breach event by identifying discrete attacker be- haviors within clear and encrypted communications, based upon its autonomous learning capabilities,” Walmsley says. Deploying AI in a GDPR environment, however, is no easy task. Training algorithms, for instance, requires collecting vast amounts of data, which has become much more complex and time-consuming under GDPR— specifically Article 22. As such, the need for solutions such as Vectra’s GDPR compliant threat detection platform is growing. Many industry experts fear that GDPR will ultimately have a nega- tive impact on AI growth and de- velopment. It’s possible that in the future, we could see revisions to GDPR that allow for easier AI im- plementation. For now, companies will have to be very careful when rolling out technologies that use AI.
