EMERGENT The new “Digital Orbit” from business information pro- vider IHS Markit reveals the readiness and global busi- ness impact of six transformative technologies, and a survey found that nearly all (87 percent) of companies are adopting at least one transformative technology in their businesses. However, just 26 percent of those surveyed believe appropriate business models are in place to cap- ture the full value from these technologies. Edge Computing Key to IoT Edge computing solutions are key tools that help com- panies grapple with rising data volumes across industries and are critical in allowing companies to gain more control over the data their IoT devices create and in reducing their reliance on (and the costs of) cloud computing, say re- searchers at Business Insider Intelligence. These systems, in turn, are becoming more sought-after, as 40% of com- panies that provide IoT solutions reported that edge com- puting is coming up more in discussion with customers. According to channel partners, as hot as SD-WAN and UCaaS. During the next two years, 66% of channel sellers sur- veyed by Avant said they expect their growth to be driven in part by managed IoT ser- vices. This projection correlates with the large number of master agents the added IoT to their service listings in our “2019 Master Agent Directory” starting on page 24. 22 Billion The global number of successful retailer chatbot interactions by 2023, up from an estimated 2.6 billion in 2019, according to Juniper Research.
