F ederal Communica- tions Commissioner Brendan Carr is set to deliver the keynote address on Wednesday, Day 2 of WISPA- MERICA 2019, at 11:00 a.m. in the General Session room next to the exhibit hall on the third floor. Playing off former President Ronald Reagan’s “nine most terrifying words in the English language,” Carr’s keynote is titled “I’m with the government, and we want to help. No, really.” Considered by WISPA a “champion of rural broadband,” Commissioner Carr has been a vocal advocate and ally of the WISP industry who has met frequently with WISPA representatives and has visited WISPA member facilities. He also has worked to support the FCC’s recent efforts to repeal Net Neutrality, working to bring back “light touch” policies to guide the inter- net’s growth. Carr was nomi- nated to serve as a Commis- sioner by President Donald J. Trump, was confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate and was sworn into office in 2017. He brings to the posi- tion more than a dozen years of public and private sector experience in technology and communications law and policy. Commis- sioner Carr is known for his expertise on the full range of telecom policy issues, especially wireless, public safety, competi- tion and international issues. At the keynote, he is expected to share his views on issues of interest to WISPA members including spectrum, infra- structure and subsidies. m FCC’s Carr to Give Wednesday’s Keynote FCC Commissioner and WISPAMERICA Keynote Brendan Carr DAY 1
