WISPAmerica 2019 Show Daily Day 2

1 8 WISPA merica 2019 I MARCH 19 - 21, 2019 www.bekabusinessmedia.com DAY 2 BEC Technologies Adds FCC Performance Measures for CAF Recipients B EC Technologies, a developer and manu- facturer of wireline and wireless customer premises-based solutions for broadband access, recently announced the availability of FCC Performance Measures and reporting as a part of its BECentral Service Enablement Platform. This new capability to ensure Connect America Fund (CAF) Phase II and other ETCs support recipients meet and comply with FCC requirements is avail- able now – months ahead of the mandated July 1, 2019, deadline to start network testing. BECentral, which is BEC’s Service Enable- ment Platform for licensed LTE, CBRS shared spectrum and unlicensed 5 GHZ solutions, is now fully equipped to support scheduling and detailed report generation for network performance and latency measurements per FCC requirements. This new functionality builds on its comprehen- sive suite of services for device management and extended network visibility, said the company. Operators deploying BEC’s Ultimum Series of wireline residential gateways, such as the 892ONE, 8700AXL and 8900AX, can leverage existing device support of TR-143, the widely accepted industry standard for measuring broadband performance at the customer prem- ises – thus supporting the use of existing network management tools and systems, such as Access Control Server (ACS). “Providers are deploying a variety of different network technologies to deliver broadband deployment to unserved rural customers,” said D’Andre Ladson, vice president of marketing and product management at BEC Technologies. “With the short timeframe to implement the require- ments to meet the deadline, it was imperative that we implement functionality across our portfolio of wireline and wireless solutions ensuring that our customers can achieve and maintain compliance.” m Visit BEC Technologies at WISPAMERICA booth #321. Thursday’s Keynote: Google’s Preston Marshall O n Thursday March 21, here at WISPAMERICA 2019, keynote speaker Dr. Preston F. Marshall will make the case for WISPs to “drive a hybrid on the information super highway.” Engineering director for Google Wireless, Marshall will discuss how the emergence of high-capacity, shorter-range, wireless broadband systems, such as CBRS and eventually 5G will create new models of broadband deployment that are hybrids of fiber and wireless, rather than choices between fiber and wireless. At Google Wireless, Marshall is respon- sible for spectrum access technology, with a focus on the creation of a vibrant ecosystem of equipment, users and standards in the newly shared 3.5 GHz CBRS band. Added to this, he is Chair of the Wireless Innovation Forum Steering Group, developing the standards base for 3.5 GHz spectrum sharing, and Vice Chair of the CBRS Alliance, developing coexistence and neutral host technology for the 3.5 GHz band. Marshall has long been involved in wire- less technology and policy, including holding the positions of Deputy Director of the Infor- mation Sciences Institute (ISI) of University of Southern Cali- fornia; Research Professor at USC’s Electrical Engineering Department; and before that, Program Manager with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Marshall is also an author, with a new book, “Three Tier Shared Spectrum, Shared Infra- structure, and a Path to 5G,” just released by Cambridge University Press, as well as two prior books on Cognitive Radio. m His keynote takes place in the 3rd floor ballroom, near the expo floor, at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
