WISPA .org 9 www.bekabusinessmedia.com DAY 2 China Mobile Deploys ‘Groundbreaking’ Indoor Distributed Base Station with Baicells C hina Mobile Group Jiangsu Company, along with the China Mobile Research Institute, recently deployed a ground- breaking O-RAN based 4G indoor distrib- uted base station, marking a big step for the commercialization of virtualization-based open wireless networks. O-RAN is an organization initiated by China Mobile, AT&T, Deutsche Telekom, NTT DOCOMO and Orange. Its members include 19 operators and more than 45 IT/CT manu- facturers. The organization is dedicated to bringing environmentally friendly, accessible, open and smart wireless access networks into reality. This initial trial was carried out in the Suzhou Mobile building and adopted a brand-new open network architecture design. Baicells’ baseband processing software was running on a general purpose processor (GPP) and based on Leno- vo’s’ telecom-grade OpenStack and Kontron’s cloud server. The radio hardware was based on Baicells’ open reference design. The radio inter- ference due to multiple bands and multiple inter- ference sources was resolved using Baicells’ Cell Combining technology, said the companies. “This trial is characterized by its flexible deployment, plug and play nature, instant coverage and smart capacity extension. It matches the requirements for service and application diversification of future 5G networks,” said Li Wang, Baicells OpenRAN & 5G Lead. “These innovations support network evolvement towards standardization, universalization, open-source and intelligent technologies while enabling edge computing (MEC) technology. Due to these factors, the CAPEX and OPEX for network operation can be reduced on a large scale.” China Mobile 5G Innovation Center Jiangsu Open Lab will continue exploring and imple- menting innovations based on the Openstack cloud platform via splitting the control node and computing node, deploying MEC services, introducing vertical applications via an open AP and upgrading from a CT network to an ICT fusion network. m Get On-Site Tower Safety Training C ould your team use some tower training? Well, Tower One is ready to bring the training to you. Yes, you read that right. Provided there are enough trainees to attend, Tower One will bring its training course to your location or area. Tower One tower safety certification courses are custom tailored to meet the needs of wire- less broadband providers and the variety of structures that are utilized. Standard certifica- tion courses encompass both “Authorized” and “Competent” curriculums to satisfy the require- ments set forth by OSHA and ANSI. Tower One also offers an advanced rescue and rigging class for those looking to accelerate their rigging knowledge and rescue capabilities.  “We generally strive for 10 to 12 students to put on a class, and schedule it 6 to 8 weeks out,” said company executives, “so feel free to talk to other climbers or similar companies in your area.” To reserve your class just drop Tower One a line via its contact page, and “we can begin to tentatively schedule the dates,” said the company. Tower One requires a $500 deposit to secure the dates at least six weeks in advanced to begin making travel arrangements and ship- ping times. Full payment of all students must be paid within three weeks of the course to guar- antee the time for all companies involved. Recently, Tower One training trips have been booked out three to four months in advanced. m Visit Tower One at WISPAMERICA booth #603.
