Header... SHOW.INCOMPAS.ORG 1 www.bekabusinessmedia.com Earlier this year, Uniti Group’s national wholesale owned fiber network announced its intent to merge with Windstream’s fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) business – a landmark merger which will create a premier insurgent fiber provider in the U.S. that’s uniquely positioned within Tier II and III markets. During his opening remarks on Monday, INCOMPAS CEO Chip Pickering praised Uniti and Windstream’s merger as “an exciting development for the industry,” and one that “reflects what has emerged over the last 10 years [in terms of the] new investment, the new ecosystem and the new ways that we’re seeing the combination of companies as they deploy fiber to the home, long haul to the enterprise and business market and all the different applications that their networks and their investments are creating.” Following Pickering’s introduction, Uniti President and CEO Kenny Gunderman took to the stage to talk about the changing industry, and the rise of fiber as a critical communications enabler for the AI era. “There were a few things that we were right on during our previous INCOMPAS keynote from 2017,” Gunderman said. “We predicted that fiber was going to become the next mission-critical communications infrastructure asset. We said it emphatically. And we were right.” According to Gunderman, the fiber industry is stronger than ever, due to rising demand from areas like hyperscalers, AI, FTTH, and convergence. “I couldn’t be more excited about where we are in the industry or the fact that fiber is mission critical and that we have an expansive fiber network here at Uniti,” Gunderman said. Gunderman also spoke about the evolution of fiber, and listed some reasons the industry is (Continued on page 4) Fiber Takes Center Stage During Uniti Keynote OCTOBER 20-22, 2024 THE 2024

4 THE INCOMPAS SHOW I OCTOBER 20 - 22, 2024 www.bekabusinessmedia.com DAY 1 DAY 2 (Continued from page 1) in a better place now than it was in the early 2000s. “First, we have a much more rational competitive landscape,” Gunderman said. “There’s less overbuilding, and we see more targeted capital investment models today. Second, there are a lot more on-ramps – those last mile, high broadband feeders of capacity onto networks. Back in the 2000s, we were focused heavily on long-haul fiber, but we lacked sufficient on-ramps. And third, back in the 2000s, we were building things with demand on the come. Today, we are awash in broadband demand – and it’s terrific.” Gunderman also explained how the pandemic accelerated fiber as mission-critical, changing perceptions and highlighting its importance on infrastructure. “Social distancing would not have worked had we not been able to stay connected to each other,” Gunderman said. “As a result, COVID really accelerated the focus on fiber as being mission critical, along with peoples’ views of all the different things that it can bring to us.” p Zayo, a leading communications infrastructure provider, announced the expansion of its 400G wavelength network to address rapidly increasing bandwidth needs in the New York/New Jersey metro area. As one of the only providers bringing new capacity to the area, Zayo’s 400G network provides high-bandwidth, low-latency connectivity to key industries in the economic epicenter of New York and offers connectivity to other key markets on Zayo’s largest independent network. “As one of the most competitive business markets in the world, businesses in New York require a network that can help them keep up,” said Bill Long, Zayo’s chief product and strategy officer. “The expansion of our 400G network in New York is a true competitive differentiation for our customers. Not only are we providing the big bandwidth industries need for today and the future, but we are enabling our customers with the most modern, carrier-diverse, and low-latency connectivity to other key markets across the country and globe, in a way that no other provider can.” Leveraging Ciena technology, the expansion will optimize connections between Zayo’s metro network in New York and its extended long-haul network to ensure faster service delivery and experience across North America and the globe. Zayo’s 400G metro network in New York will link into key routes like Zayo’s SPREAD Network, the single most direct and lowest-latency route between New York and Chicago—the two largest financial markets in North America. It will also connect into major data centers and subsea cables in the New York metro for fast access to international networks to reach key markets like Latin America. This added capacity will support several critical industries. For example, Zayo will resolve bandwidth bottlenecks in New York, the finance capital of the world, providing the ultra-low latency and high bandwidth needed for real-time trading and secure transactions and the most direct connection, via Zayo’s Spread Network, between New York and Chicago – the two largest financial markets in North America. The added critical capacity to the dense carrier region will also support seamless connectivity for massive North American carrier traffic. It will also connect to major subsea cables to support connectivity from North America to Europe and beyond. In addition, Zayo’s 400G capacity will ensure reliable content delivery for New York’s media hub, meeting the growing demand for large bandwidth to support HD video, streaming, and AI services. This expansion marks the latest addition to Zayo’s 400G network, as Zayo continues to be one of the few providers actively investing in expanding its network and 400G capacity. Currently one of the largest 400G networks in North America, Zayo’s long haul network is now more than 90 percent 400G enabled and on track to be fully 400G enabled by the end of 2024. Zayo’s New York-New Jersey 400G metro network will be ready for service in early 2025. p Learn more by visiting Zayo at Plaza Court 4 and 5. 6 THE INCOMPAS SHOW I OCTOBER 20 - 22, 2024 www.bekabusinessmedia.com DAY 1 DAY 2 Transaction Network Services (TNS), TransUnion and First Orion announced the availability of branded calling with logos across the top three U.S. wireless carriers. The partnership ensures branded calls with rich content are verified with end-toend authentication, providing a secure method to help prevent call spoofing. With the addition of logo delivery to the portfolio of rich content, the partnership expects a continued increase in secure branded calling adoption before the end of 2024. “Despite the many digital communication channels available, the phone call is the preferred channel for addressing personal, complex, and high-value business situations,” said the companies in a joint statement. “Companies must consider leveraging the benefits of authenticated branded calling to build long-term brand affinity and improve engagement. This becomes even more vital to financial service firms that have experienced a dramatic uptick in fraudulent activity, which can negatively impact their brand and customers.” Branded calling enables enterprises to add rich content to the mobile display, including name, number, and now, logo, along with a secure end-to-end authentication and verification framework, to ensure calls are not spoofed. The solution is essential for promoting businesses, establishing consumer trust, and increasing engagement while protecting brands and consumers from fraud. After two years of close collaboration, the partnership continues to advance innovation and adoption. Recent milestones include branded calling adoption by more than 4,500 U.S. businesses and 15% of Fortune 500 companies; delivering more than 3.7 billion branded calls this year; shared network coverage for over 300 million consumers; and registering more than 250,000 businesses and 22 million phone numbers. According to Juniper Research, robocall scams could cost consumers $73 billion this year, and “the implementation of frameworks such as STIR/SHAKEN, and mass rollout of branded calling solutions, are expected to significantly impact criminals’ operations.” Already working in lockstep with this guidance, the partnership is responsible for establishing the industry standards that helped introduce branded calling to the U.S. marketplace. With the addition of logos and nationwide coverage across the top three wireless carriers in the U.S., a mass branded calling rollout is already underway, with expectations to continue to reach more businesses and consumers over time. p TNS is located at Booth 104. www.bekabusinessmedia.com SHOW.INCOMPAS.ORG 11 DAY 2 Branded Calling ID Services: An Overview from TransNexus In yesterday’s INCOMPAS Show Daily, we provided an introduction to Branded Calling ID. Today, we will continue the discussion with a brief overview of how it works and the key differences from proprietary branded calling solutions. BCID and Rich Call Data Branded Calling ID (BCID) uses a nonproprietary, standards-based approach to deliver branded calling information. It’s called Rich Call Data (RCD), and it builds upon the STIR/ SHAKEN call authentication standards. In STIR/SHAKEN, authenticated caller information is put into a SHAKEN PASSporT, which is then cryptographically signed using Public Key Infrastructure techniques to create a trusted signature. The terminating provider verifies the signature. These techniques ensure that information in the PASSporT cannot be changed or replayed. Rich Call Data provides a standardized method of adding information about the caller to the PASSporT, where the cryptographic techniques ensure that it won’t be altered. Here’s an example of the payload in a SHAKEN PASSporT: “attest”:”A”, “crn”:” Upcoming Delivery” “dest”:{“tn”:[“12025551001”]}, “iat”:1443208345, “orig”:{“tn”:”12025551000”}, “origid”:”123e4567-e89b-12d3a456-426655440000”, “rcd”:{ “icn”: “https://example.com/photos/acmedelivery-logo-256x256.png” “nam”:”ACME Delivery Service” } “rcdi”: { “/icn”: “sha256-RojgWwU6xUtI4q82+kHPyHm1 JKbm7+663bMvzymhkl4” } This SHAKEN PASSporT provides information for a call from 1-202-555-1000 to 1-202-555-1001 with a full A-level attestation. The IAT claim is the time-date stamp, and the OrigId is an optional identifier. The CRN provides a call reason, in this case, “Upcoming Delivery.” This is an optional feature in branded calling. The RCD section includes an ICN, which is the URL of the caller’s logo. This is also optional. The RCDI section provides an integrity value generated to ensure that the image posted at that link hasn’t changed since this PASSporT was authenticated. The RCD name conveys the brand name in branded calling. This is the bare minimum information presented in branded calling. Per the standards, it should only be used on calls that qualify for a full A-level attestation. BCID versus Proprietary Branded Calling BCID differs from the current proprietary branded calling solutions in several key areas: 1. BCID uses the Rich Call Data standards developed for STIR/SHAKEN to communicate branded call information, rather than proprietary out-of-band networks. 2. Branded calling information is independently vetted and verified by authorized partners, rather than the same business that sold a proprietary branded calling service. 3. BCID ensures network interoperability through a single uniform end-to-end ecosystem, avoiding the complexities of sharing branded calling information and activity across multiple proprietary networks. 4. Unlike proprietary solutions, BCID provides callers with a confirmation that their brand information was delivered. p TransNexus offers software for telecom service providers to manage and protect their telecom networks, including STIR/SHAKEN. 12 THE INCOMPAS SHOW I OCTOBER 20 - 22, 2024 www.bekabusinessmedia.com DAY 1 DAY 2 Metronet Brings Fiber-Optic Internet to Grand Haven, Ind. Ziply Fiber Rolls Out New Colocation Services Segra Expands Market Reach with Strategic Acquisition of Everstream’s All-Fiber Network in St. Louis Metro Recognized as the nation’s fastest major ISP by PCMag two years in a row, Metronet announced its plans to transform the digital landscape of Grand Haven, Ind., by bringing 100% fiber-optic internet to the area. Through its nearly $5 million privately funded investment, Metronet will add Grand Haven to its growing network in Michigan with access to fast, reliable fiber-optic internet with speeds up to five gigabits for homes and 10 gigabits and faster to businesses. Metronet’s construction plan is set to begin shortly, with the first customers expected to be connected by next summer. “Metronet is proud to welcome Grand Haven to our growing Michigan network as we prepare to build fiber-optic infrastructure across the community – underscoring our dedication to increasing internet options for residents and businesses,” said Jill Cordes, Metronet’s vice president. “We have seen firsthand how access to fast, reliable internet makes life that much easier, and we can’t wait for Grand Haven to experience the Metronet difference.” Recognized as the country’s “Fastest Major ISP” by PCMag in 2023 and 2024, Metronet will equip Grand Haven residents and businesses with the fastest, 100% fiber-optic multi-gigabit speeds. An all-fiber network enables symmetrical internet speeds, meaning that upload speeds are as fast as download speeds. Once construction begins, Grand Haven residents will see Metronet trucks in the area. Residents will receive communication by mail about construction activity in their neighborhood 30 days before the start date. Additional notifications, such as yard signs, will also inform residents of upcoming construction. Metronet crews will be identifiable by ID tags and branded vehicles. Metronet plans to hire local market management positions, sales and customer service professionals, and service technicians to support the Grand Haven area. With Ziply Fiber’s new leasable colocation offerings, businesses of all sizes will have the security, reliability, redundancy and compliance they need, all in one cost-effective solution for housing their network servers and critical infrastructure. In essence, Ziply Fiber has created an alternative to often inconveniently located data centers at a fraction of the cost. Colocation serves as a secure solution and economic alternative for businesses supporting mission-critical applications and data. It addresses the need for low latency, reliability and robust security measures without requiring the extensive financial resources from businesses to construct and maintain their own data center facility with round-the-clock infrastructure, generator and HVAC monitoring and support. Ziply Fiber’s colocation services allow customers to own and retain control over the design and usage of their equipment, while overseeing daily management. “The necessity for strategic colocation has never been more important due to the rise of data usage through emerging technologies like artificial intelligence,” said Chris Gellos, Ziply Fiber’s general manager of Commercial Services. “With our strategically located facilities, Ziply Fiber offers alternatives to expensive data centers, providing essential amenities and scalability, saving businesses time and money while ensuring uninterrupted operations and compliance with industry standards.” Colocation with Ziply Fiber provides access to top-tier facilities for a fixed monthly fee, eliminating the need for capital investment in infrastructure and personnel. Ziply Fiber’s colocation facilities also ensure a secure environment with round-the-clock monitoring and advanced security measures. What’s more, the company’s colocation services feature redundant systems for air conditioning, power, network infrastructure and technical resources, ensuring business continuity. And as Ziply Fiber is compliant with data center requirements for PCI and HIPAA, choosing colocation can make it significantly easier to comply by allowing auditors to review certifications for the data center. p To meet the Ziply Fiber team, stop by Meeting Lounge 217. The community’s support for C Spire’s fiber expansion in Laurel reflects the shared vision for increased connectivity. “C Spire’s private investment in Laurel’s fiber infrastructure is great for our community,” said Mayor Johnny Magee. “In today’s world, fast and reliable internet isn’t just a luxury—it’s a lifeline that empowers our residents to thrive and compete in a digital age.” C Spire first launched fiber service to cities across Mississippi in 2014 and has built a thriving network spanning more than 150 communities in Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Tennessee. C Spire is committed to expanding its fiber service to bring more Mississippi communities online and technology improvements to its home state. C Spire began offering wireless services in the Laurel area in 1990. The company now provides fiber internet services to businesses and residents, as well as a full suite of products for businesses and government entities. p Tarana recently announced the RNv – a small radio device for a home or business that wirelessly connects residents to reliable, high-speed internet from a distant tower. Tarana’s next-generation fixed wireless access (ngFWA) technology delivers fiber-class speeds with the deployment ease of wireless, even in harsh weather and non-line-of-sight (NLoS) environments. Since its commercial launch in late 2021, the unprecedented performance and capacity of G1 – the company’s novel ngFWA broadband platform – has become the gold standard in wireless broadband delivery. More than 250 service provider customers in 24 countries are deploying Tarana G1 to bring better broadband to their networks more efficiently and cost-effectively. The RNv is a new version of Tarana’s original RN, designed to balance ngFWA technology advances with improved affordability. Engineered for up to 800 Mbps aggregate speeds in unlicensed 5 GHz & 6 GHz spectrum, it offers Tarana’s signature performance at a more attainable price, effectively expanding ngFWA benefits to value-focused consumers and lower-ARPU markets. This new radio is optimal in line-ofsight (LoS) and near-line-of-sight (nLoS) environments at ranges up to 30 kilometers. The RNv is priced at $399 in volume and will ship in the first quarter of 2025. “The introduction of the RNv is the logical next step for ngFWA technology.” said Tarana CEO Basil Alwan. “Advanced silicon integration enabled us to take wireless broadband to an entirely new level; the RNv announcement underscores our intent to continue pushing the limits of ngFWA in both cost and performance. Alongside our customers – whose critical work brings reliable broadband to their communities – we’re on a mission to close the digital divide and offer improved broadband choices to consumers worldwide.” “The RNv will enable us to upgrade more end users and expand our coverage footprint much more economically,” added Sebastian Ivanisky, CTO of VTX1 Companies.” We’re very excited to scale our ngFWA deployment to serve more people with fast, reliable internet.” p Tarana Announces a New Product to Accelerate Progress on the Digital Divide DC BLOX Secures $265 Million Green Loan DC BLOX, a leading provider of interconnected data centers, announced it has raised incremental equity capital from its existing and new investors, led by Post Road Group and Bain Capital Credit.
