signal an abundance of cloud expertise within the organization,” say 451 ana- lysts, as measured by the number of cloud-certified professionals on staff. Most businesses (52 percent) indicate they have no cloud-certified profession- als on staff, with another 26 percent indicating they have “‘very few.” Among businesses with fewer than 1,000 em- ployees, 59 percent say they have no cloud-certified professionals on staff. For businesses with more than 1,000 that number is 37 percent. Responses also suggest that more than a small number of cloud experts on staff is a rarity even for advanced users of the cloud. On average, only 4 percent of businesses indicate they employ “many” cloud certified profes- sionals. “Even among those busi- nesses that indicate they are at the ‘broad implementation’ stage of cloud adoption, only 7 percent indicate they have many public cloud-certified pro- fessionals on staff, and a significant portion (39 percent) indicate they have none,” reported Liam Eagle, analyst with 451 Research. Any lack of ex- pertise, however, is doing very little to keep IT depart- ments off the hook. VIAVI’s findings show that 65 percent of responding network teams said they were responsible for troubleshooting cloud issues, while 11 percent were unsure. Just under a quarter said they were not. Underlying the significance of this finding is that network teams may not even be involved in the initial migration to the cloud, as that move may have been decided and implemented within a business unit, said VIAVI executives. And compounding matters even further, more than nine in 10 enterprises regu- larly have some portion of the work- force accessing network or application resources from a remote site, such as a home office or hotel. When asked to identify the greatest challenges of cloud computing from an engineer perspective, network and server team respondents indicated the shortcomings existed primarily with loss of visibility, determining user ex- perience and assessing complexities of the migration. virtual reality Current and Planned Deployments Source: VIAVI Solutions Instance of Cloud-Certified Professionals on Staff Source: 451 Research Source: Gartner, July 2018 Private Cloud Public Cloud Server Virtualization Software-Defined Networks Yes Yes, In 2019 Yes, In 2020 No 60% 12% 7% 21% 56% 11% 5% 28% 79% 6% 5% 10% 43% 19% 12% 26% Many public cloud professionals on staff Some public cloud professionals on staff Very few public cloud professionals on staff No certified public cloud professionals on staff Fewer than 1,000 employeees More than 1,000 employees 3% 6% 18% 22% 20% 35% 59% 37% Expand your portfolio with our Master Agent Program.
