It’s the best way to plot your attack to make it through WISPAMERICA 2025, which continues through Thursday. WISPA Director of Communications Mike Wendy recommends attendees can get all the help they need to plot, plan and prepare for the numerous educational sessions, networking opportunities and tradeshow floor time by using the mobile app available at https:// mobile-mobile.swoogo.com/app/h19zu9. “There are over 35 panels, general sessions and keynotes, a number of co-located events, a field trip, and receptions – so, there’s a lot going on,” Wendy shared. “ If attendees miss anything from the panels, they’ll have access to the content posted a week after the show. Of course, if an attendee has any questions at any point, they can reach out to showinfo@wispa.org and our team will quickly respond to their queries. We’re also on site and ready to help.” Among the 35 different panels, several will focus on the red hot topics of security and of course AI. Wendy suggested checking the agenda in the Show Guide for specific times and locations. Among the topics covered will be: • Cybersecurity and Compliance • Automation & AI for Fiber Network Optimization • AI and Machine Learning in Action • Important FCC and Other Federal Agency Cybersecurity Proceedings (Continued on page 4) WISPA Encourages Attendees to ‘Kick the Tires’ Cameron Kilton, Chief Technology Officer at Nextlink Internet speaks Monday to attendees of the WISPAMERICA 2025 Tech Vision Forum. DAY 1 4 WISPAMERICA SHOW I MARCH 24 - 27, 2025 www.bekabusinessmedia.com Growing your business also is a major issue as well, and it is one reason WISPAMERICA 2025 will feature Robert Franklin, the president and CEO of the National Venture Capital Association, Franklin plans to provide an in-depth overview of the unique venture capital (VC) model, discuss VC market trends and highlight how VC drives U.S. economic growth by accelerating groundbreaking innovations, creating jobs and generating value for investors, entrepreneurs, and society. He’ll also discuss how venture capital is improving connectivity and driving efficiency gains throughout the broadband sector. But WISPAMERICA is about more than educational/informational sessions. It also is about networking, meeting and renewing friendships as well as making deals. “The great benefit of WISPAMERICA is that it’s an in-person, hands-on, kick-the-tires event,” Wendy said. “ You’re not on a Zoom call or Teams meeting – you’re actually meeting with your colleagues from across the country, seeing, sharing and learning all under one roof. “So, the best advice is to chart your path from the agenda or the Attendee Mobile app and go to the panels you want,” he continued. During your time in Oklahoma City, you’ll see people who share the same interests, Wendy said, adding, “Don’t be afraid to ask questions and share your experiences during these panels – that’s exactly what they’re built for.” One of the best places to meet and greet is the exhibition floor, where attendees also can see the latest gear and services. Here attendees can gather useful information and important data on the productions and services. It’s also a good place to start, negotiate and close deals. “Consider it a one-stop showroom, with all the flavors of hardware, software and services – stuff you can experience directly,” Wendy said. So much is planned during the next couple of days, that to take it all in and survive requires thoughtful pacing. Wendy provided some survival tips: • Wear comfortable shoes. “You’re going to be on your feet a lot, and you don’t want the week to be soured by foot discomfort,” Wendy said. • Be sure to hydrate. Especially after the evening’s social events. • Don’t lose your badge. There’s a fee to replace it. • Have lots of business cards and use them. Wendy also addressed downtown Oklahoma City. “Bricktown is close providing a nice touristy area to dine and entertain, with lots of choices. You can walk there, too. The downtown is quiet at night, but the streets are safe to walk, and the people are open and friendly,” he said. Bricktown is a lively entertainment district with repurposed warehouse spaces that have become restaurants, piano lounges and chic wine bars. The district comprises an eclectic mix of shops. Most importantly, Wendy said attendees should be prepared to “Ask lots of questions… of anyone. Literally. The community is a brotherhood. You have over a thousand fellow travelers at the event. There are no wrong answers. WISPs want to share what they know. It’s just in their nature.” Wendy closed on a personal note: “I have never worked in a community that is more giving than this one.” J Venture capital often is the bedrock of any entrepreneur’s endeavor, regardless of whether the recipient is a start-up or a company looking to grow. Often it is venture capital (VC) that funds fledgling businesses that do not have the cash flow to take on the debt required for them to become successful. A form of private equity financing, companies with high growth potential – such as wireless internet service providers – often seek out VC to help them translate their business plans into business reality. Without venture capitalists gambling their money on optimistic entrepreneurs, many companies, innovations, products and services would remain nothing more than someone’s dream. Robert “Bobby” Franklin understands the ins and outs of venture capital as well as anyone. As President and CEO of the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), Franklin has become a leader, advocate and mentor. In his role, Franklin inspires others to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams and drive positive change in the world. Franklin also is the keynote speaker this morning for WISPAMERICA 2025. He will speak at 9:30 a.m. in the Painted Sky Ballroom located on the fourth floor. During his address, Franklin will provide an in-depth overview of the VC model, discuss current VC market trends and highlight how VC drives U.S. economic growth by accelerating groundbreaking innovations, creating jobs, and generating significant value for investors, entrepreneurs, and society. He’ll also discuss how VC is improving connectivity and driving efficiency gains throughout the broadband sector. Franklin has led the NVCA since 2013. Under his stewardship, the association has become the leading voice of the U.S. startup ecosystem, advocating for public policies that foster innovation and drive economic growth. With a relentless commitment to supporting American entrepreneurs, Franklin has positioned NVCA as a driving force in shaping the landscape of venture capital. In 2020, he led to the public launch of Venture Forward, a NVCAconnected organization focused on cultivating a strong, diverse and inclusive venture community. Through innovative programs like VC University, Venture Forward has empowered more than 4,000 aspiring and early-career VCs, many from historically underrepresented backgrounds, fueling the pipeline of talent in the industry. Before accepting his positions at NVCA, Franklin spent a decade at the CTIA – The Wireless Association. He was on the public policy frontlines for the dawn of smartphones and the launch of the app-based economy. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of Federal Government Affairs at Alltel, demonstrating his expertise in navigating complex regulatory environments. Franklin’s journey began with a solid foundation in public service, spending seven years on Capitol Hill working for the late Sen. David Pryor (D- Ark.). DAY 1 WWW.WISPA.ORG 9 www.bekabusinessmedia.com Atheral Becomes an OSP in BCID Ecosystem Atheral, a market leader in white-label VoIP solutions, announces its participation as an originating service provider (OSP) in the trademarked Branded Caller ID (BCID) Ecosystem. As one of the first VoIP providers to join the ecosystem, Atheral is at the forefront of transforming the telecommunications landscape by delivering a trusted, branded calling experience to service providers and enterprise clients. Branded Caller ID is a solution that increases answer rates and enhances customer engagement. By leveraging STIR/SHAKEN protocols, BCID enables businesses to display rich call data (RCD) such as caller name, logo and call reason on consumer smartphones. The innovative technology mitigates the risk of calls being mislabeled as spam while it fosters consumer confidence in incoming calls. BCID is the only market solution governed by the Cellular Telecommunicataions Industry Association (CTIA) that ensures businesses can deliver trusted calls. The rigorous vetting process confirms the authenticity of enterprise caller display names, logos and call reasons, ensuring compliance with industry best practices. Unlike legacy branded calling solutions, BCID is not controlled by a single vendor but is an open, competitive marketplace benefiting OSPs, service providers and enterprises. “BCID will be a game changer for service providers and enterprise clients trying to maximize the answer rate of their outbound calls,” said Daniel White, co-founder of Atheral. “No longer will poorly implemented caller reputation analysis mark their calls as spam. Instead, rich call data will inspire confidence for customers on who is calling. I believe this is a service developed by CTIA that every service srovider will benefit from.” As an OSP in the BCID Ecosystem, Atheral provides service providers and enterprise clients seamless access to branded calling solutions, ensuring their calls are trusted and answered. Businesses only pay when their branded call data is delivered successfully, making this a cost-effective and impactful solution for improving customer communications. The global provider of networking solutions learned of the certification earlier this year during the Wireless Global Conference APAC 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand. The milestone underscores Cambium’s commitment to delivering seamless, secure, and scalable wireless connectivity for enterprises, service providers, and smart city initiatives. The WBA PlugFest, held as part of the APAC Conference, rigorously tested vendors for interoperability and compliance with OpenRoaming standards. DAY 1 18 WISPAMERICA SHOW I MARCH 24 - 27, 2025 www.bekabusinessmedia.com Calix Inc. announced enhancements to its trademarked SmartBiz and the Calix Broadband Platform that accelerates business market growth for broadband service providers (BSPs). Platform enhancements enable BSPs to support more types of small businesses by streamlining SmartBiz delivery. Expanded SmartBiz capabilities give BSPs greater flexibility to support small businesses like health care and medical clinics that have existing firewalls and static IP requirements. Continued innovation for the Calix Wi-Fi systems portfolio enables BSPs to expand high-performance Wi-Fi coverage for small businesses with large physical footprints — indoors and outdoors. Finally, the ability to pre-provision Wi-Fi systems accelerates deployments to get small business owners up and running faster. Local BSPs leveraging the Calix Platform are positioned to fuel economic momentum in their communities by delivering secure services like SmartBiz to support sustained small business success. Launched in 2023, SmartBiz is a purpose-built solution enabling BSPs to serve small businesses with managed Wi-Fi, advanced security and network resiliency. Integrated with the Calix Platform, SmartBiz is easy to deploy, manage and scale — helping BSPs reduce costs while growing revenue. A recent peer-reviewed economic study by the nonprofit Center on Rural Innovation (CORI) highlights the critical role local BSPs play in driving entrepreneurship and business investment and creating environments that foster small business growth. The study found that in counties where broadband adoption exceeds 80 percent, business growth is 213 percent higher, selfemployment rises by 10 percent and local gross domestic product (GDP) is 44 percent higher compared to counties with lower broadband adoption. The latest SmartBiz enhancements on the Calix Platform enable BSPs to: • Meet the diverse needs of more small businesses, from large car dealerships and farms to healthcare clinics with existing security and business systems. The Calix Wi-Fi systems portfolio gives BSPs a menu of Calix GigaSpire and GigaPro systems to mix and match, enabling them to accommodate indoor and outdoor businesses that operate in large physical spaces like places of worship and golf courses. Additionally, SmartBiz supports deployment behind existing firewalls, enabling rapid implementation for businesses with established security infrastructure like dentist practices, doctors’ offices, nursing homes and pharmacies. • Accelerate deployments to connect and protect small businesses more efficiently. With new SmartBiz pre-provisioning in Calix Cloud, BSPs can deploy small business connectivity more quickly through GigaSpire and GigaPro systems. This eliminates on-site provisioning, accelerates installations and reduces technician time in the field — saving BSP resources while ensuring small businesses can benefit faster from SmartBiz. Updates to Calix Cloud enable BSPs to assign static IP addresses to business devices—broadening their service capabilities and further minimizing time onsite. • Sustain business market growth with enhanced sales and marketing support. The Calix Market Activation program hands BSPs the blueprint for SmartBiz launch success — including polished marketing plans, razor-sharp sales tools, and plug-andplay templates for websites, videos, digital ads, and classic outreach. Calix customers can access ready-to-use, customizable campaign materials for SmartBiz to promote differentiating features like outdoor Wi-Fi, along with targeted sales support tailored to specific small business verticals. Last year Calix expanded capabilities in Calix Cloud and the Field Service App, enabling BSPs to grow their small business market share through enhanced targeting, acquisition and operational efficiencies. This announcement builds on that momentum, further streamlining deployments and driving sustained growth. With ongoing SmartBiz innovation, Calix empowers BSPs to scale their small business offerings seamlessly using the same integrated platform, systems, and workflows that support their residential subscribers. “To stay competitive, broadband providers must evolve their offerings to drive real economic impact in their communities,” said Michael Weening, president and chief executive officer at Calix. “We have seen incredibly fast adoption of SmartBiz over the past two years, highlighting a clear market gap for a purpose-built small business solution. This presents a major opportunity for Calix customers to support the success of small businesses in their footprints by meeting the growing demand for secure small business connectivity that is tailored to the unique needs of myriad business types. “The latest updates to the Calix Platform and SmartBiz simplify deployment and expand service capabilities, helping broadband providers support more businesses while driving their own growth to better serve their communities,” Weening added. J You can discover how the updates to the Calix Platform and SmartBiz accelerate BSP business market growth by visiting the Calix booth, 411, on the tradeshow floor or go to calix.com.
