For two decades, WISPA has helped WISPs grow and connect millions of Americans, while “punching above its weight,” fighting for the WISP industry in Washington D.C. The festivities began Monday evening, when WISPAPALOOZA24 attendees toasted 20 years at a special opening reception, but there are still opportunities to commemorate WISPAs many accomplishments during the next few days. For starters, make sure to join us today and tomorrow at 11:15 a.m., in Horseshoe Gold for phase one and two of the annual WISPA Awards, where we’ll celebrate the 2024 winners. And on Wednesday morning starting at 7a.m., you can honor the achievements of the women of WISPA at the official Women of WISPA Breakfast. Later Wednesday afternoon, listen as industry experts such as Steve Coran of Lerner Senter and WISPA’s own David Zumalt discuss the many policy efforts WISPA has spearheaded before the FCC and other agencies and the many lessons learned. “20 Years of Policy Advocacy: The Good, Bad and Ugly,” takes place at 4 p.m. in the Champagne 4 meeting room. And you can take a little of the celebration home by stopping by the complimentary live printing station located in the Paris Main Hallway to create your own custom hat, tee or koozie. In the meantime, thanks to all exhibitors, sponsors and attendees for their past support to WISPA, and here’s to 20 more years. m WISPA Celebrates 20th at WISPAPALOOZA ’24

As the number of connected devices continues to rise and the consumption of bandwidth-heavy applications and content becomes more prevalent, WISPs need innovative solutions to effectively manage their networks and ensure seamless connectivity for their customers. One solution that has gained significant popularity in recent years is virtual broadband network gateways (vBNGs). But what exactly are vBNGs? The primary role of a vBNG is to handle the network traffic between the WISP and its customers. As the backbone of the network infrastructure, vBNGs are crucial in ensuring reliable and high-speed internet connectivity for ISPs. They act as a bridge between the WISP’s edge network and the diverse range of customer devices, enabling seamless data transmission and optimized network performance. Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the key features and benefits of vBNGs: Scalability: vBNGs can quickly scale to handle increasing network traffic without requiring significant hardware investments. This scalability is crucial for WISPs as they continue to experience exponential growth in data consumption. Flexibility: As software-based solutions, vBNGs offer greater flexibility in terms of deployment and configuration. WISPs can easily adapt and customize the vBNGs to meet their specific network requirements without the limitations imposed by traditional hardware-based gateways. Cost Savings: vBNGs can significantly reduce operational costs for WISPs by replacing traditional hardware-based gateways. The virtualized nature of vBNGs eliminates the need for expensive hardware investments and allows for more efficient resource utilization, resulting in cost savings that can be passed on to customers. As the demand for high-speed internet continues to grow, vBNGs have emerged as a vital component in WISPs’ network infrastructures. Their ability to efficiently handle network traffic, offer advanced features and provide cost-effective solutions makes them indispensable tools for WISPs striving to deliver exceptional internet services to their customers. Another technology that can play a crucial role in enhancing WISP growth is carriergrade network address translation (CGNAT). CGNAT services are designed to address the growing scarcity of IPv4 addresses by allowing WISPs to serve a larger customer base using a limited number of public IP addresses. When a customer initiates a connection to the internet, their private IP address is translated to a public IP address within the WISP’s CGNAT pool. This translation process enables multiple subscribers to share the same public IP address while ensuring their individual network sessions remain separate and secure. CGNAT also protects against network-based attacks by hiding the customer’s private IP address from potential attackers on the public Internet. Moreover, CGNAT services employ advanced algorithms to allocate public IP addresses to customers dynamically. This ensures efficient utilization of the limited IP address pool, allowing ISPs to serve a larger customer base without compromising network performance. netElastic developed one of the first software-based BNGs and has been a leader ever since. netElatic’s high-performance virtual BNG delivers up to 1 Terabit of throughput and easily scales up to 128,000 subscribers. Buying IPv4 addresses on the open market is expensive, given their limited supply. netElastic CGNAT enables ISPs to conserve IPv4 addresses while transitioning to IPv6, and netElastic’s software-based CGNAT eliminates the high costs associated with more traditional CGNAT products. m Visit netElastic at WISPAPALOOZA booth #731. 6 WISPAPALOOZA SHOW I OCTOBER 14 – 17, 2024 www.bekabusinessmedia.com DAY 1 L Z OO 2023 Marketbroadband.com, which specializes in providing turnkey marketing programs for wireless and fiber/wireline ISPs, is showcasing its new Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising service, designed specifically for ISPs at WISPAPALOOZA 2024 in Las Vegas. The company noted that PPC advertising is an ongoing challenge that ISPs encounter in digital marketing, with fixed wireless and fiber ISPs needing address-level targeting for all marketing. Unfortunately, digital platforms tend to force targeting to zip codes or one-kilometer radii. “The first problem for ISPs is zip code or radius around a tower PPC campaigns generate a lot of paid, unserviceable clicks,” said Ken Janc, the president of Lorex, the company behind Marketbroadband.com. “The second problem is that unserviceable clicks are a PR problem. The more people click and can’t get service, the more word can spread that service isn’t that readily available. It might not be true, but word can spread and that’s damaging.” Using MarketBroadband’s GIS for Marketing, serviceable addresses are ingested into the campaign platform. A virtual cluster tool is then used to build a targeting plan that maximizes serviceable address ratios in the PPC campaign. Wasted marketing spend is minimized by reducing the unserviceable clicks. “The targeting is key,” added Janc, “but we will manage the entire campaign with a reporting dashboard and all of the tools you would expect.” Visit Lorex and MarketBroadband at WISPAPALOOZA booth #343. 14 WISPAPALOOZA SHOW I OCTOBER 14 – 17, 2024 www.bekabusinessmedia.com DAY 1 L Z OO 2023 BillMax Billing Solutions, a software company for internet and VoIP providers, is offering clients a streamlined way to create, manage and store FCC-required broadband labels. To support the new requirements, BillMax implemented a way to create a label for each standalone, mass-marketed broadband access service plan. This easy-to-use solution offers ISPs a simplified method for providing clear, accurate and standardized information to customers. The service not only streamlines regulatory adherence, but supports requirements governing storage of each label for a minimum of two years, including the management of a retrievable archive. BillMax creates a CSV file to make the information in the labels machine-readable. This allows third parties to collect and aggregate data to create comparison-shopping tools for consumers, as required. When labels are published, an HTML file is written with all labels so they can be added to a website. BillMax also has a REST API endpoint to retrieve the label for a certain service for an individual customer in an online portal. “We’re excited to offer this complete service to our clients so they can meet the FCC requirements easily”, said Ellen Slezak, account manager, BillMax. “Following the FCC guidelines to serve those customers seeking service is essential, allowing customers to see their broadband label on the portal will build trust with current customers.” BillMax Billing Solutions helps businesses - particularly the ISP and VoIP verticals - manage a customer lifecycle to improve customer service, reduce cost and lower administrative overhead. Since 1998, the company has completed hundreds of installations for clients worldwide. Tarana and Winncom Technologies announced the availability of G1, Tarana’s next-gen fixed wireless access (ngFWA) broadband platform, in the U.K.. G1 is compliant in 5 GHz spectrum. G1 is the first instance of ngFWA technology. Overcoming various industry challenges – solid performance despite physical obstructions, radio interference and distances up to 15 kilometers – it is the first solution to deliver fiber-class broadband in non-line-ofsight (NLoS) spectrum. The U.K. joins 23 other countries that are deploying ngFWA through more than 250 ISPs. This is Tarana and Winncom’s first step to bring the technology to Europe; G1 will be made available in many EU countries throughout the remainder of the year. The move follows the U.K. government’s 2019 announcement of its goal to reach 100 percent of the nation’s premises with gigabitcapable broadband service by 2025. The following year that goal was reduced to 85 percent coverage, which equates to roughly 25 million, explaining why the coverage goal is more commonly known as “25 by 25” and overlooks approximately four million homes and businesses that are considered “very hard-to-reach” locations. ngFWA can ensure that rural communities aren’t left behind. Without the extensive timelines and high costs associated with wired connectivity solutions, the U.K.’s service providers can now reach VHTR locations with reliable broadband up to 600 Mbps, surpassing the required internet speed for most households. “We’re proud to add Tarana G1 to our portfolio in the United Kingdom, and soon the rest of Europe,” said Igor Kurochkin, Winncom’s vice president of global vendor management and marketing. “Already live in other continents we serve, the platform enables our customers to cost-effectively deliver highspeed broadband and bridge the digital divide more efficiently.” “Our ngFWA technology will make the difference for hard-to-reach locations in the UK and beyond,” added Tarana CEO, Basil Alwan. m Visit Tarana Wireless at WISPAPALOOZA booth #141 and Winncom Technologies at booth #534.
