4 WISPAMERICA I MARCH 4 - 7, 2024 www.bekabusinessmedia.com DAY 2 Federated Wireless, which offers shared spectrum and private wireless solutions, announced the official FCC certification of its automated frequency coordination (AFC) system in the 6GHz band. To date, Federated Wireless has announced commercial agreements with Cisco Systems, HPE Aruba Networking, MediaTek and Airspan/ Mimosa. These leading enterprise WLAN access point manufacturers, it noted, collectively account for more than 50 percent of the worldwide enterprise outdoor AP market. The commercial agreements accelerate standard power and outdoor AP operations in the 6GHz band, swiftly facilitating access to the band for Wi-Fi and fixed wireless providers such as Tarana. “We’ve been working with regulators around the world and our industry partners for the last five years to build the policies and ecosystem to support the use of the 6GHz band,” said Federated Wireless CEO, Iyad Tarazi. “The increased amounts of power that we’re able to make available for Wi-Fi, wireless internet service providers (WISPs) and OEMs serving the fixed wireless access WISP market opens a new universe of potential use-cases and revenue streams for equipment makers and service providers.” Federated Wireless’ AFC is a turnkey solution that simplifies the path to Wi-Fi 6E standard power operation. Devices can transmit at approximately 63X the power indoors, with outdoor capabilities supercharged by the new spectrum availability in the 6GHz band. “In today’s interconnected world, people and things rely on Wi-Fi more than any other wireless technology. Reliable connectivity, regardless of use case, is the foundation for the delivery of applications and resources. As an industry leader, it’s our responsibility to strengthen that foundation,” said Yogesh Paliwal, director of product management at Cisco. “Cisco has led initiatives across wireless standards bodies, industry forums, and regulatory authorities to define standards for automated frequency coordination. We have collaborated with Federated Wireless to provide AFC service to our customers in the U.S. With the availability of AFC, Cisco customers can now unlock the 6GHz band for outdoor use and improve performance indoors for certain use cases.” “The operational flexibility of 6GHz is immensely important to HPE Aruba Networking because of the critical need for additional Wi-Fi spectrum for our customers across nearly every enterprise vertical, as well as government agencies and military services,” said Stuart Strickland, HPE fellow and wireless CTO at HPE Aruba Networking. “Together with Federated Wireless, HPE Aruba Networking has been at the forefront of advocating for the opening of the 6GHz band for unlicensed devices here in the U.S. and all over the world.” Enhanced access to the 6GHz spectrum band also enables WISPs and OEMs serving WISPs to deliver higher power levels and speeds to their customers. Specifically, fixed wireless access technology providers such as Federated Wireless’ partner Tarana can now expand its network equipment options for service providers, adding high-performance 6GHz operation to the industry’s portfolio of shared-spectrum solutions. “This new spectrum option empowers us to provide fast, competitive broadband service more widely to the over 50 million families in currently un- or underserved U.S. markets where high-speed fiber is prohibitively expensive and satellites cannot meet network capacity needs,” stated Tarana’s VP of product management Rakesh Tiwari. “Our next-generation fixed wireless access (ngFWA) platform, operating in 6GHz at standard power, provides fiber-class service at scale, even in areas where the band is welloccupied by incumbents and new competitors. Our ngFWA platform can use existing tower and backhaul infrastructure and is well-proven to deliver real-world link speeds typically five to 10 times faster than 5G fixed-wireless devices.” Federated Wireless is ready to support commercial operations in the 6GHz band, furthering its commitment to innovation in the wireless industry. DAY 2 6 WISPAMERICA I MARCH 4 - 7, 2024 www.bekabusinessmedia.com Positron Access Solutions announced that its Access G.hn access multiplexer (GAM) – which can support more than 250 operators in delivering gigabit internet services over existing, legacy building wiring – includes native XGS-PON support that is now in use by more than 25 North American broadband service providers (BSPs) since its October 2023 launch. These BSPs, it was noted, successfully leveraged the integration of G.hn and XGS-PON with full interoperability with Calix SMx / Operations Cloud and E-series OLT, eliminating the need for any IT integration effort. The P-XGS-ONT comes in an SFP+ form factor and turns the Positron GAM into a 24-port ONT. This multi-subscriber ONT offers comprehensive OMCI support for seamless flow, through provisioning from the BSS to the OLT and to the subscriber, exactly as with other single-family ONT devices. This offers significant capital expense savings over rewiring a building. The ITU-T G.988-based OMCI capabilities, meanwhile, allow full creation, provisioning, activation and management of subscribers (VLAN, bandwidth profile). The GAM as an ONT now supports firmware updates from the OLT. Advanced troubleshooting is accessible via the GAM GUI. The GAM operates over coaxial cabling or telephone pairs offering incomparable operating efficiencies compared to alternative technologies. This offers significant capital expense savings over rewiring a building. J Visit Positron Access Solutions at WISPAMERICA booth #308. Positron Announces Milestone with Operators Deploying XGS-PON Integration for GAM Solution In keeping with Sandy Beaches Software’s long-standing ability to not just listen, but to make client requests a reality, the company announced a realtime interface that incorporates the Zoho Books accounting and general ledger system. In 2023, the Zoho family of products added more than 20 million users, achieving a monumental milestone of 100 million total customers. “We’ve had several clients ask for an API integration with Zoho Books. By combining our billing and customer care platform, IntegriBill, and Zoho Books voice providers are able to generate clear, compliant invoices for their customers while still running the rest of their business with Zoho Books,” remarked lead developer, Riley Pate. “The integration, similar to our one with QuickBooks Online, enables IntegriBill clients to see every line item from an end user’s invoice within their Zoho Books system. This benefits SBS clients’ accounting departments and outsourced accounting services who now have access to the customer data without needing to access the IntegriBill program. They can accomplish tasks without the need to learn another program or contact the billing department for specialized reports simply by using the data that’s been loaded to generate reports from their general ledger program. IntegriBill invoices may be exported into Zoho Books, including the charges and taxes, providing the ability to have a complete view of the business. Zoho Books meets providers’ accounting needs and IntegriBill will handle the invoice compliance and taxes specific to the telecom industry.” Other recent IntegriBill integrations of note include Powercode (Booth 132) and Bicom Systems. “Jeff and his team have been very proactive at adding integrations for us. SBS’ billing platform, IntegriBIll, has the reporting, integrated tax engine and compliance features that we need to handle our invoicing. Since the integration with Bicom, we’ve seen an improvement in our aging and fraud numbers because we have the ability to do a soft disconnect and hard disconnect with Bicom,” said WISPA member Kevin Reno, also president of Southern California Telephone. “A soft disconnect (customers still have the ability to receive calls, but not make an outbound call – 911 and 988 being the exceptions) really gets their attention, and our receivables average has improved drastically. I anticipate that the SBS team will continue to expand their integrations based on customer feedback. They always seem to keep their client’s profitability and efficiency at the forefront of everything they do.” J Visit Sandy Beaches Software at WISPAMERICA booth #616. DAY 2 WWW.WISPA.ORG 15 www.bekabusinessmedia.com Tarana Wireless announced the FCC certified Gigabit 1 (G1), its next-gen fixed wireless access (ngFWA) broadband platform, in the new unlicensed 6GHz spectrum. Tarana is the first manufacturer to receive an equipment authorization grant from the FCC in 6GHz. After announcing G1’s 6GHz capability in October of 2023, Tarana began shipping the new equipment for customer pilots. This grant will allow ISPs to operate commercially in the 6GHz UNII-5 and UNII-7 bands, with 4W EIRP power that is managed by the automated frequency coordination (AFC) system. More than 200 ISPs in 21 countries have adopted Tarana ngFWA technology, in CBRS and unlicensed 5GHz, to better reach underserved communities with high-speed broadband. Known for its unprecedented ability to cancel radio interference, the G1 platform can help operators planning to leverage unlicensed 6GHz. G1 also brings flexible sub-carrier channel configuration to 6GHz spectrum. In contrast to systems based on Wi-Fi standards that require operation in 160MHz wide channels, G1 can operate in multiple independent sub-channels, allowing the system to achieve full-gigabit performance, even when the presence of incumbent radio links and competing ISPs in the 6GHz band limit the availability of clean, contiguous 160MHz channels. A recent study conducted by Tarana in partnership with Comsearch (a leading 6GHz AFC provider) examined channel availability for 100,000 tower locations throughout the U.S. The study found that in rural America where the digital divide is widest, 70 percent of locations cannot maximize the benefits of the 6GHz band without G1’s unique sub-carrier operation — and nearly 50 percent of suburban locations are similarly spectrum-limited for Wi-Fi technology. DAY 2 18 WISPAMERICA I MARCH 4 - 7, 2024 www.bekabusinessmedia.com PLP and FulcrumAir partnered to launch an advanced, automated robotic system for installing helically shaped bird diverters on overhead power lines. The Mini LineFly offers an unmanned system that automatically and precisely installs PLP’s BIRD-FLIGHT diverters on overhead lines. This helps to alleviate lineworker safety concerns while bolstering project efficiency. “We are excited to collaborate with FulcrumAir to launch this newest addition to our expanding lineup of robotic installation solutions,” said Ryan Ruhlman, PLP’s president. “The Mini LineFly not only offers the most efficient method for installing bird diverters but, more significantly, contributes to enhancing the safety environment for utility workers around the world.” The Mini LineFly accurately places PLP BIRD-FLIGHT diverters at predetermined intervals in order to maximize their performance, protect wildlife from accidental contact with power lines and reduce unintended bird collisions by enhancing line visibility. As an added benefit, it helps to mitigate potential power outages. The first implementation took place as part of the High Banks Wind project in Kansas, where nearly 15,000 bird diverters were installed using robotics, along the 75-mile 345 kV transmission lines spanning Marshall, Republic and Washington counties. The High Banks Wind project delivers approximately 600 megawatts of dependable renewable energy to Midwest U.S. customers. “We are extremely pleased with how the Mini LineFly performed during this demanding project,” said Patrick Arnell, president and CEO, FulcrumAir. “Our mission is to develop and operate equipment that assists electric utilities with the industry’s ongoing challenges, including staffing shortages, increased need for safer work sites and overall project efficiency requirements.” PLP and FulcrumAir also recently introduced the CSR-18 robot, a robotic installation system designed for PLP CUSHION-GRIP twin spacers. Both cutting-edge robotic solutions are fully operational worldwide, with multiple projects initiated globally. J Visit PLP at WISPAMERICA booth #527.
