VISIT OUR WEBSITE @ritaliafunding DAY 1 DAY 2 In February the FCC’s Office of Engineering and Technology cleared seven automated frequency coordination (AFC) systems to operate in the new 6 GHz spectrum band through its unlicensed spectrum rules. The approvals included systems from Qualcomm, Comsearch, Broadcom, Federated Wireless, Wi-Fi Alliance, Sony and the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA). The FCC’s announcement came after several years of rigorous lab testing and public trials. Back in 2020, the FCC opened 1,200 MHz of 6 GHz spectrum to meet rising demand for internet access, including 850 MHz of automated frequency coordinated spectrum standard power for outdoor use. The spectrum sits adjacent to the 5 GHz band that WISPS leverage to deliver broadband to consumers. On one hand, the 6 GHz band is an ideal fit for wireless broadband. But as WISPA vice president of spectrum and industry Richard Bernhardt explained, the space is heavily occupied by broadcasters, commercial ISPs for non-retail, point-to-point “backhaul” services and energy companies. “Broadband carried by spectrum represents a tremendously reliable, robust and cost-effective way to deliver internet access, especially in hard to reach and serve rural, under-resourced and Tribal areas of the country,” Bernhardt said. “But spectrum is finite, and there is little greenfield spectrum available to meet growing demand. Consequently, spectrum must be shared between many uses and users.” (Continued on page 8) ‘Boon to Rural Broadband:’ WISPA Applauds FCC Approval of AFC Coordinators

4 WISPAMERICA I MARCH 4 - 7, 2024 www.bekabusinessmedia.com DAY 1 Regulatory Solutions, Inc. (RSI) recently announced two enhancements to SignalQual, a high-performance RF propagation tool for network planning, management and documentation. SignalQual now includes 3D building elevations and footprint data at two-foot resolution, along with 10-meter clutter data for improved accuracy compared to standard 30-meter clutter datasets. RSI also uses manufacturerspecific antenna pattern files for pointto-point path studies. Unlike LIDAR-based applications, which can only identify a serviceable address when there is a clear line of sight, SignalQual considers the surrounding terrain and clutter — including type and height — in the propagation path. The result is a powerful tool that provides instant access to location-specific service availability data, eliminating the need for callbacks and technicians. What’s more, RSI uses comprehensive address data from the BDC Fabric to ensure that every address is vetted and RF-qualified for the most reliable service predictions. “Thanks to the public funding for the BDC Fabric data, we’re now capable of offering this industry-leading tool with built-in addressing functions matching the BDC Fabric to your current billing system,” said RSI president Brian Webster. “We’re excited to see how it will help our clients improve their operations and provide better services to the end-users.” SignalQual ultimately streamlines WISP operations, elevates the customer experience and optimizes service delivery. “The sales process becomes considerably more efficient with our tool,” added Webster. “We’re talking about allowing WISPs to close sales during the first customer call. Our high-resolution data lets you know if you can service a specific address and at what speeds.” SignalQual also leverages SelfQual, which is RSI’s self-qualification tool. This feature enables potential customers to verify service availability quickly and easily by entering their address or pinpointing their location on a map. SelfQual saves time and improves the customer experience through self-service. Of note, RSI customers benefit from competitive pricing. SignalQual is free for customers who use RSI’s services to file FCC broadband Data Collection (FCC) reports. “We understand the financial conservativeness and technical adeptness of WISP owners,” Webster concluded. “Our tool is designed to deliver high value and robust data at a reasonable price point, supporting WISPs to maximize their operational efficiency while minimizing costs.” J RSI Releases Key Updates for SignalQual RemoteWinBox Unveils CompassWiFi Package for Managing Home Networks Admiral Platform (RemoteWinBox), a software provider for centralized MikroTik management, released its new-look managed WiFi web app. Dubbed “CompassWiFi,” this full suite of home network management tools offers streamlined, full control and visibility into the home network platform. DAY 1 8 WISPAMERICA I MARCH 4 - 7, 2024 www.bekabusinessmedia.com Clearfield’s SeeChange Helps Operators Speed Fiber Deployments as FTTx, 5G Networks Ramp AFC coordination, Bernhardt said, guarantees that incumbent operations in the band remain free from harmful interference. The new system will automatically determine how much power a device can use in real-time, using a centralized database that provides data on local operators and available channels. “Technological systems like the AFC make shared use possible and unleash its potential for broader consumer availability,” Bernhardt continued. “Importantly, systems like the AFC represent a primary way in which greater commercial use can be derived from limited spectrum resources.” According to Bernhardt, several important milestones remain before companies can offer 6 GHz services directly to homes and businesses. However, Bernhardt believes the imminent availability will provide more fuel and space for innovators to meet growing demand and foster the next generation of innovative connectivity and services for wireless consumers. “WISPA expects that this newly expanded marketplace will bring unimagined internet capacity quickly, flexibly and cost-effectively to places once thought ‘off the map,’” Bernhardt said. “This will enable connection of more Americans to life-bettering broadband. Moreover, it will prove essential in helping private and public funding go further in the quest to eradicate the digital divide. WISPA applauds this work, and eagerly looks forward to completing the task of opening-up the 6 GHz band for broader use.” FCC chief engineer Ron Repasi called the new AFC system a major milestone for the widespread deployment of unlicensed operations in the 6 GHz spectrum, as well as the wider unlicensed ecosystem. “6 GHz standard power and fixed client device deployments under AFC control will expand access to new technology, applications and services,” Repasi stated. “This is an exciting time for the industry, and for American consumers and business.” J (Continued from page 1) WISPA VP of spectrum and industry Richard Bernhardt Community broadband fiber connectivity provider Clearfield announced the SeeChange terminal and hardened connector system. The small, craft-friendly, carrier-grade access terminal is designed for fiber network deployments that require a plug-and-play approach. Purpose-built as a commercial offthe-shelf option for community broadband and 5G network operators looking to overcome supply chain constraints and technician shortages, this terminal and hardened connector system offers a pre-packaged solution that requires minimal training in any deployment scenario. It is also tested to withstand extreme environments. “I could author a book on fixed wireless technologies, but I know nothing about fiber,” said Telespan owner Rob Walker. “By teaming up with Clearfield and its new SeeChange platform, I can deliver a state-of-the-art fiber-tothe-home network to over 200 homes in Lubbock, T.X., using plug-and playcomponents with only my two wireless techs. Anyone wanting an easy-tounderstand and easy-to-install fiber network should consider the Clearfield SeeChange platform.” SeeChange’s hardened fiber assemblies are available with either a multi-fiber MPO connector or a singlefiber SC APC connector. An integrated rear shell provides the feature that engages and fully seals a connection to the SeeChange Terminal. The connection is ideal for harsh OSP environments and is rated for below- or above-grade installations, including aerial installations on strands. An MPO input port allows for four subscriber drop ports as well as an MPO Express output port that feeds downstream terminals, enabling the operator to push fiber deeper in the neighborhood. The compact size can be deployed in a variety of locations including pedestal, vault, flowerpot, pole-mounted, smartpole or strand mounted options. “Over the next decade, fiber networks will go further than they have ever gone before, connecting people and places previously unreachable based on economics and technology,” said Johnny Hill, COO, Clearfield. “Operators need solutions that speed time to market, reduce cost of deployment, and can be deployed with minimal training. SeeChange ensures that our customers can address these needs quickly and cost effectively, with a simplified solution that withstands the harshest environmental challenges.” SeeChange works alongside Clearfield’s other terminal products designed so that engineers can deliver fiber services in support of any size fiberto-the-home (FTTH), fiber-to-the-business (FTTB) or 5G network, with minimal training needed for installation and service activation. Both hardened connector styles are easily secured into open terminal ports and cleaned and inspected using a special optical probe tip, making it a complete solution for quick installations using entry level technicians. DAY 1 18 WISPAMERICA I MARCH 4 - 7, 2024 www.bekabusinessmedia.com Baicells Technologies – a global provider of turnkey 4G LTE and 5G NR solutions for operators and the enterprise – launched its Fusion RAN platform. The software offers a scalable, flexible RAN solution that allows service providers to offer multiple wireless services (2G, 4G and 5G) from a single networking platform. Fusion RAN delivers on the Baicells mission to connect more with less. The economical, distributed open platform allows operators to introduce and transition network services from one generation to another without major disruption to the network or requiring new investments for each upgrade. Fusion RAN hardware elements that are deployed to deliver one type of service can also later be repurposed to deliver a new generation of service. This translates to ROI for the service provider. The basic network elements of the Fusion RAN platform consist of a single high-performance base band unit (BBU) that can support up to 18 remote radio units (RRU) via multi-gigabit fiber. Each RRU, which can be located at considerable distances from the BBU, is software provision-able to support a specific air interface type: 2G, 4G or 5G. These RRU types can be mixed to best meet the local service requirements of the community and businesses the operator is serving. As the various local network endpoints evolve and upgrade to support new service types over time, the RRU elements can then be repurposed to support new services, streamlining the transition for the operator to achieve faster time-to-service and time-to-revenue. The platform will support GSM, LTE and NR bands for deployment in a variety of local markets. Initially the use case will be for outdoor deployments for mobility or fixed wireless, but indoor eNB and gNB can also be supported. This type of configuration allows for a centralized BBU located in a metro area that can offer a mix of wireless services across both outdoor and indoor environments, for the carrier. Despite regular headlines on the latest in 5G deployments, many regional markets still rely heavily on earlier generation of wireless services as their critical lifeline. As a result, service providers continue to balance the need for network upgrades to the next “G” against the need to continue offering legacy wireless services that many of their subscribers still expect. Fusion RAN provides an attractive technical and economical solution to managing this transition and, on the carrier’s, own schedule. “Being a global organization, Baicells must provide networking platforms that meet a variety of market requirements while still providing an attractive ROI,” said Lixin Sun, chairman and CEO, Baicells. “Our ability to offer a highly flexible and scalable solution with 2G, 4G, and even 5G, is very attractive for all kinds of service providers. Early interest in this platform has been extremely positive for us.” Baicells has already secured first trial and contract commitments with operators in Africa; general availability is planned for Q3 2024. Baicells Unveils Fusion RAN Network Platform for Mobile Operators, Service Providers Marketbroadband.com Announces Online Tool for Creating Broadband Facts Labels Marketbroadband.com is showcasing its new online tool for ISPs that need to generate FCC required Broadband Facts Labels. Starting in April, large ISPs are required to show consumers a standardized “broadband facts label” similar to Nutrition Labels that are required on packaged food products. In October, all ISPs will be required to provide these same labels. With variations in service offerings, even small ISPs could find they need 50 or more label iterations to cover all possible configurations, said Marketbroadband.com. “Marketing staff will most likely be charged with creating the labels for either print or online use,” said Ken Janc, president of Lorex, the company behind Marketbroadband.com. “We’ve been told by ISPs that an easy-to-use tool that allows them to customize the label template directly and download it in a .jpg file format will be a real time and money saver.” ISPs start with the FCC suggested label format and quickly customize it for each service plan. The .jpg file format may be downloaded and handed off to either the website administrators for online placement or to graphic designers for any printed material. “Using this tool will prevent a lot of inevitable back and forth with a graphic designer,” added Janc. “Marketing staff can create dozens of the labels in minutes.” While the Broadband Facts Labels are not technically required in mass media, ISPs should consider testing its use and the impact on response rates. In many cases, response and conversion rates may be higher when consumers can easily see what they are being offered and like what they see. The online tools have been released to select users and will be in full release on the Marketbroadband.com authorized ISP portal at Marketbroadband.LorexExpress.com on March 15. MarketBroadband.com specializes in providing turnkey marketing programs for wireless and fiber/wireline Internet service providers. J Visit MarketBroadband.com at WISPAMERICA booth #508.

DAY 1 20 WISPAMERICA I MARCH 4 - 7, 2024 www.bekabusinessmedia.com VIAVI Incorporates Traffic Analysis and Visibility within Observer Sentry VIAVI Solutions added new traffic analysis capabilities to its Observer Sentry SaaSbased threat exposure management solution. With traffic visibility, Observer Sentry can now go beyond identifying unintended and potentially dangerous exposures, enabling SecOps, DevOps and cloud architects to determine if a vulnerability has been exploited. Observer Sentry audits security groups, access control lists, firewall rules and other sources of configuration to identify resources and relationships across all AWS accounts. This analysis specifically locates misconfigurations and overly permissive settings that tend to create unwanted exposure. Plus, integration with vulnerability scanners allows Observer Sentry to automatically prioritize critical vulnerability remediation. Traffic integration will enhance the software’s exposure and vulnerability analysis by comparing what the configuration will allow with visibility into actual events. Integration with the VIAVI Observer Apex performance-monitoring solution supports forensic-level traffic analysis should an exposed resource become compromised or a vulnerability exploited. “As cloud service adoption accelerates and attack surfaces grow, enterprises need to move beyond siloed vulnerability management to secure their cloud environments, said VIAVI’s VP and GM, Network Performance and Threat Solutions, Chris Labac. “This is especially critical with customers maintaining multiple AWS accounts. The powerful combination of Observer Sentry with VIAVI’s industry-leading flow analysis takes threat exposure management to the next level by providing critical traffic visibility, enabling enterprises to identify, prioritize and remediate threats effectively.” Observer Sentry is part of the VIAVI Network Performance and Threat Solutions portfolio, and is leveraged by enterprises worldwide – alongside its end-user experience scoring function – to continuously monitor and analyze end-to-end network and service architectures, promoting security and peak performance. DAY 1 22 WISPAMERICA I MARCH 4 - 7, 2024 www.bekabusinessmedia.com Adtran Announces Telstra Trial of FSP 150 for Edge Compute Services Adtran announced that Telstra successfully trialed its FSP 150 edge compute device, opening the door to enhanced network services for business customers across Australia. By incorporating Red Hat’s OpenShift software directly onto Adtran’s hosting platform, Telstra succeeded in facilitating the management and operation of small applications at the device’s edge. The solution will enable multiple applications to run on a single device, reducing the need for additional hardware investment. This approach empowers businesses to derive new value from existing hardware, leading to a reduction in inventory sprawl and power use while also making operations more environmentally friendly. The collaboration shows the potential for Telstra customers to benefit from operational efficiency gains while also delivering enhanced control over network security and data usage. “This initiative pushes the boundaries of how device edge capabilities will enhance the way businesses operate, helping them do more with less and generate more value from existing hardware,” said Channa Seneviratne, a technology development and innovation executive with Telstra. “Alongside simplification, this trial demonstrates how we can enable a more distributed and intelligent network with better resiliency, performance and workload distribution. It’s another step forward in our ambition to unlock more value for customers and continue to drive technology leadership.” Telstra’s trial of Red Hat’s Linuxbased OS and the OpenShift container platform on Adtran FSP 150 devices makes it possible to leverage new capabilities from hardware already sitting in customer networks. This approach reduces additional investment need and enhances operational efficiency. Hosting applications at the network edge also brings about stronger security, better data management and improved network reliability, all while streamlining the deployment and management of applications. Of note, the strategy promotes innovation and equips businesses to adapt to future technological changes and market demands. The edge hosting device utilized in the trial – the FSP 150-XG304u, powered by an Intel Xeon D processor – offers substantial bandwidth and processing power for hosting multiple at-the-edge applications. “Together with Telstra and Red Hat, we’re helping transform traditional edge hardware into versatile devices capable of running multiple applications,” said Adtran APAC CTO, Anthony Camilleri. “By enabling operators like Telstra to host VNFs directly at the network edge, we’re optimizing response times and reducing the need for extensive backhaul bandwidth, leading to significant energy and opex savings. Bringing cloud capabilities to the edge also eliminates the need for additional network elements and extra space at the customer premises, ensuring a more streamlined and cost-efficient infrastructure. Our FSP 150 series merges toptier carrier Ethernet functionality with the flexibility of open hosting for edge cloud applications. This empowers operators to provide reliable business-class data services alongside innovative end-user services, all within a single carrier-class device.” J Visit Adtran at WISPAMERICA booth #417. Preseem launched a series of new features to help fiber and hybrid ISPs more easily manage subscribers across access technologies and hardware vendors. Hybrid ISPs, in particular, provide services via a mix of access technologies, among them fiber and fixed wireless. Preseem’s new features will provide seamless access across operational data from a single location, reducing the need to log into multiple systems for each access technology and vendor. This also helps to improve support and network operations team efficiency, reduce staff training costs and increase support for introducing new vendor equipment without costly integration work. Since its 2017 launch, Preseem has built a worldwide customer base consisting of hundreds of regional ISPs, most of which providing highspeed internet services to rural and underserved areas via fixed wireless access (FWA) networks. As fixed wireless providers increasingly add fiber to their networks, this allows them to meet new challenges from major telcos in the FWA space and participate in government funding initiatives. “We are delighted to deliver these new features for fiber and hybrid operators,” said Dan Siemon, co-founder and CPO, Preseem. “For years, our award-winning technology has helped fixed wireless operators understand and proactively improve the subscriber experience. We’re thrilled to now offer the same level of insightful data and metrics to regional ISPs running multi-vendor fiber and hybrid networks.” J Visit Preseem at WISPAMERICA booth #425.
