DAY 1

C

yan, a provider of software-defined

networking (SDN), network functions

virtualization (NFV) and packet-optical

solutions for network operators, and

INDATEL, a group of wholesale carriers dedicated

to providing best-in-class, cost-effective transport

connectivity throughout rural and metro America,

announced the later has selected Cyan’s Z-Series

packet-optical transport platform (P-OTP) and

the Blue Planet SDN software for its first 100G

deployment.

The upgrade to 100G connectivity improves

aggregation and scale for the INDATEL carrier

members to enable more efficient and cost-effective

service delivery.

“Our members operate high-capacity networks

that require reliable, and high-bandwidth trans-

port connectivity,” said INDATEL Chief Operating

Officer Max Huffman. “Cyan’s scalable 100G solu-

tion, including the Z-Series and the Blue Planet

SDN platform, allow us to aggregate their traffic

more quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively for

network applications.

“The increased transport capacity enables us

to better deliver services across the Rural Ethernet

eXchange (REX) and supports our goal to provide

a seamless network throughout rural and metro

communities across America,” Huffman added.

Cyan’s Z-Series P-OTP family, coupled with

the Blue Planet SDN platform for multilayer

network management and A-to-Z service provi-

sioning, is a solution for network operators

upgrading and evolving their metro and regional

networks to 100G.

The Z-Series set an industry benchmark for

100G packet-optical convergence, density and

flexibility. It provides a carrier-grade solution that

integrates 100GbE packet switching and transport,

100G coherent optical transport network tran-

sponding and muxponding, as well as 96-channel,

multi-degree reconfigurable optical add-drop

multiplexer, which is capable of transporting up to

10 Tbps on a single fiber.

With Cyan’s scalable 100G solution, carriers,

service providers and data center operators are able

to satisfy all requirements for interconnecting high-

capacity packet and optical networks while aggre-

gating and transporting wavelength and Ethernet

services with optimal efficiency.

Efficiency and scalability are critical for INDATEL

members, who support the REX network that delivers

Ethernet connectivity over 80,000 route miles of

fiber deployed across the United States.

By leveraging Cyan’s 100G solution, INDATEL is

able to provide more reliable bandwidth solutions

for its members’ carrier and enterprise customers in

rural and urban markets.

“As a charter member of INDATEL’s supplier

affiliate program, as well as a solution supplier to

many of the individual carrier members, we are

proud to have been selected for INDATEL’s first-ever

100G deployment,” said Mike Hatfield, president,

Cyan. “We look forward to continuing this valuable

partnership and supporting INDATEL’s goal to deliver

much-needed connectivity to rural and metro

communities across the country.”

Cyan enables network transformation. The compa-

ny’s SDN solutions deliver orchestration, agility, and

scale to networks, that have been static and hardware

driven. Serving carriers, enterprises, governments,

and data centers globally, Cyan’s open platforms

provide multivendor, multilayer control and visibility

to network operators, making service delivery more

efficient and profitable.

The company’s solutions include the award-

winning Blue Planet SDN software and N-Series hyper-

scale and Z-Series packet-optical hardware platforms.

INDATEL is a team of wholesale carriers dedicated

to providing best-in-class, cost-effective transport

connectivity via fiber optic network routes in rural

and metropolitan areas. Between its members, who

are primarily made up of independent rural telecom

service providers, it is able to deliver reliable band-

width solutions in rural and urban markets.

INDATEL and its members are positioned to

provide telecommunication connectivity to many

places other providers cannot.

N

ashville-based Equinox Information

Systems announced that TDS Telecom, the

seventh largest local exchange telephone

company in the United States, has implemented the

Protector fraud management system (FMS).

Processing hundreds of millions of call records

per day for its customers around the globe, Equi-

nox’s Protector is recognized as a reliable and

affordable tool for combating telecommunications

fraud. TDS Telecom licensed the Equinox solution in

2014 after evaluating its automated capabilities.

Protector provides real-time fraud protection by

separating legitimate customer usage from fraudu-

lent events. It will notify analysts instantly when

suspicious activity occurs. Higher-risk incidents

trigger more frequent alerts, including escalation

alerts when warranted.

Because Protector employs dynamic usage

profiling and proprietary monitoring metrics to

identify suspicious activity, it detects all types

of fraud – even the newest schemes – across all

customer bases and call types.

“TDS Telecom provides leading-edge business

technology solutions for businesses across the U.S.,”

said Nichole Schneeberger, commercial product

manager at TDS Telecom. “Protecting our network

and our customers is a top priority for TDS Telecom.

Protector is an important component in our overall

strategy to do just that.”

Equinox Information Systems Executive Vice

President David West added, “We are pleased to

provide TDS Telecom with a world-class, market-

proven solution. Having TDS Telecom rely on

Equinox as their FMS vendor further strengthens

Protector’s position as an industry-leading solution.”

TDS Telecom is a wholly owned subsidiary of

TDS that provides 1.1 million connections to high-

speed Internet, phone and television entertainment

services to customers in more than a hundred rural,

suburban, and metropolitan communities. TDS

Telecom, based in Madison, Wisc., offers businesses

VoIP, managed IP hosted phone service, dedicated

high-speed Internet and hosted-managed services.

Since 1986, Equinox has helped telecommu-

nication customers globally protect and optimize

revenue. Protector has earned its reputation as a

reliable and affordable FMS, saving carriers hundreds

of millions of dollars in fraud losses annually.

Besides fraud management, Equinox also

offers solutions in areas critical to profitability

and network efficiency, including data mediation,

usage analytics, network analysis, revenue/expense

management routing assurance and custom appli-

cation development.
