IoT So Far

It’s probably not so surprising – since security is top of mind

right now – that security monitoring is the primary way compa-

nies are applying IoT technologies, according to 451 Research

surveys. Smart lighting and HVAC management follow behind,

suggesting IoT is seen as a way to reduce energy consumption,

at least early on.

LTE Finds its Voice

Driven by improvements in network efficiencies

and spectrum reuse, voice over LTE is quickly ramp-

ing up, say researchers at IHS. There are currently

63 VoLTE commercial networks up and running, a net

addition of 23 VoLTE networks to the existing 40

that were online at the end of December 2015.

Hit the Bricks (and Mortar)

Despite sales moving online, physical retail-

ers remain a lucrative target for telecom and IT

providers. For one, the in-store experience is be-

coming increasing reliant on technology. What’s

more, retailers plan on opening new stores in

2016, suggest findings by research firm CBRE.
