DAY 1

P

rofitec Billing Services Inc., aWallingford,

Conn.-based billing and OSS/BSS service

bureau, announces the release of ValuBill

TEM to the solution provider marketplace.

ValuBill is a powerful telecom expense manage-

ment (TEM) product many enterprise businesses use

to manage, administer and control their communi-

cations expenses.

“Profitec has been providing billing services to the

service provider marketplace for almost 30 years but

has actually been providing TEM products directly

to the enterprise market for far longer. Our billing

services product line was actually an outgrowth of our

TEM activities,” said Randy Minervino, vice president

of Profitec’s Sales and Marketing.

“My father originally started a communica-

tions consulting company and had the vision to

automate his efforts by pioneering data processing

applications which helped provide telecom expense

management services to his consulting clients,”

Minervino continued. “These programs were

focused on providing traffic engineering, cost allo-

cation and budgeting tools.

“Starting in the advertising and brokerage indus-

tries, the company gradually made inroads into the

larger enterprise space. As we worked with dozens of

Fortune 500 companies, and other large enterprise

accounts to help them manage a huge operational

expense, the industry was changing due to the avail-

ability of SDN, VNET and other large carrier dedicated

corporate offerings,” he said.

“We augmented our TEM products with tools

that could help large companies study the feasibility

of the individual carrier offerings and help guide

decision making,” Minervino explained. “As we

began working with the billing data coming from the

carriers we could see the usefulness of the billing

data was limited at that time. Therefore, we created

corporate billing tools as TEM offerings. When indi-

vidual entrepreneurs began leveraging these large

networks and started their own communications

companies, we were ready with in-place billing

options to serve their needs.”

ValuBill TEM is a powerful tool that facilitates

management of a large operational expense.

The product consolidates, analyzes and enables

payment approval of every corporate communica-

tions invoice for all locations.

Trends are analyzed and anomalies explored.

Invoices are evaluated for cost and usage increases

as well as invoice item content. Every invoice is

uploaded to a corporate database, which allows

management to get a clear look at the overall

telecom and data expense for the entire corporation,

as well as each individual location.

Management has a clear look into all services

and expenses for each location improving ease of

oversight and invoices get approved for payment

quickly, eliminating service interruptions due to

payment issues caused by accounting backlogs. All

invoice content is correlated with cost-allocation

information, which is designed to feed directly

into the corporate general ledger and associated

accounting applications.

ValuBill TEM also supports a mobility manage-

ment option that reduces business mobility device

monthly expenses.

Profitec has helped numerous enterprise clients

modify their mobile structure and policies to make

more effective use of telecom budgets. Companies

that previously allowed executive and management

mobility decisions and offered expense reimburse-

ment, have moved to corporate wide mobility deci-

sion making and purchasing using pools of shared

minutes or data allowances. These clients use the

Valubill reports and output to manage and allocate

the expense down to the using unit level reducing

monthly expenses and allowing mobility expenses

to flow naturally into the corporate database

and ValuBill system with the rest of the telecom

expense information.

“‘Profitec has long been supporting our clients

with critical OSS components and other associ-

ated product offerings that allow service providers

to better serve their end user clients,” Minervino

said. “As the service provider community has fully

embraced many different offerings to address both

telecom and IT services, it seems the time is right to

introduce ValuBill TEM to our clients as well as other

service providers seeking additional revenue opportu-

nities and desiring to improve the value proposition

they bring to their clients.

“Valubill is just one more way we endeavor to

show the telecom community we understand their

business and offer real and valuable solutions,” Miner-

vino added.

T

eleSphere Software Inc., has enhanced its

Advantage Circuit Management (ACM)

platform with an email notification

feature. Leveraging the ability to identify

customers at the circuit, shelf, equipment and port

levels, this automated feature enables end users

to notify special circuit customers of an upcoming

network maintenance window and/or in the

instance of an outage.

The ACM database architecture creates and

stores relationships between circuits and customers,

including email addresses. When a maintenance

window is required, end users employ a notification

graphical user interface and an email template to

complete the notification process.

Launched during the first quarter of 2014, ACM

is an innovative OSS platform optimized for the

management of special circuits. Courtesy of a

formal workflow process, key performance indica-

tors are developed and the timing associated with

revenue realization is improved.

A variety of tools provide greater network

visibility, including inside plant equipment and the

association of special circuits, customers and service

level agreements. Unnecessary costs associated

with off-net circuits can be avoided via contract

management reports. Maintenance and outage

notifications can be completed expeditiously using

recently released email notification functionality.

TeleSphere’s Vice President of Sales Todd Twete

said, “Many LECs and middle-mile providers dedi-

cate substantial internal resources to manage main-

tenance and outage notifications. With ACM’s email

notification feature these same organizations can

gain operational efficiencies and enhance customer

satisfaction and retention.”

TeleSphere, a wholly owned subsidiary of Black-

foot Telecommunications Group, based in Missoula,

Mont., is a nationwide telecommunications soft-

ware and professional services provider offering

carrier access billing services, billing mediation,

wholesale billing and circuit management solutions

to the ILEC, CLEC tandem, and cable telephony

communities.
