DAY 1
T
here is no mystery behind the exponential
growth of capacity demand. It is video, in
its many shapes and forms. According to a
Cisco video networking index report, video
will represent 73 percent of Internet traffic by 2017.
As 100G capabilities find their way into the hands
of customers, innovations in network management,
prompted by new software solutions, also will fuel
growth, as operators fine tune networks to match the
needs of capacity-thirsty content providers better.
A global operator of one of the world’s most
extensive wholesale IP networks, NTT Com is dedi-
cated to getting its customers’ videos where they
need to go, quickly and safely, through its Tier-1
Global IP Network.
And NTT Com is succeeding. According to Dyn
(formerly Renesys), an independent research firm,
NTT Com ranked as one of the top two global whole-
sale IP providers of 2014, demonstrating the strength
of its world-class network and highlighting the
company’s resolve to continue investing in new infra-
structure and technology globally.
In one of its strongest performances since Dyn
began compiling the closely watched wholesale rank-
ings, NTT Com scooped an unprecedented number of
top slots.
In Asia, the company reinforced its indisput-
able position as the leading provider of wholesale IP
services, topping the ranking. In North America, the
provider ranked second (up from third at the end of
2013), and in Europe it placed sixth.
NTT Com also held top spots in other fast-growing
IP markets, ranking fourth in Oceania/Australia and
seventh in Africa.
Dyn mines a vast database of Internet routing
information to produce a series of tables comprising
the top wholesale IP service providers across various
regions and markets. The rankings – based on a metric
called “wholesale customer base score” related
to services on the IPv4 protocol – are recognized
throughout the industry.
NTT Com is the global data and IP services arm of
telecom leader NTT, one of the world’s largest tele-
communications companies according to the Fortune
Global 500 list of 2014. The company also was named
Best Global and Best North American Wholesale
Carrier at the Global Capacity Awards 2014.

Executive Vice President Michael Wheeler said, “We
are delighted with these results, but we most certainly
do not intend to rest on our laurels. We have worked
hard to grow our business in a number of key markets
around the world over the last 12 months and we are
continuing those efforts in 2015.”
The company recently established new connec-
tion points to its global IP backbone in Asia, Europe and
North America. It also opened a point-of-presence (PoP)
in Luxembourg built exclusively on 100G network links.
NTT Com broke new ground when it became the
first carrier to deploy 100G technologies on its PC-1
subsea cable system – a 21,000 km. network linking
Japan with the United States. And it is rolling out the
technology on its Asia Submarine Express cable.
According to Wheeler, NTT Com is poised to gain
more ground in the competitive IP landscape.
“We have the worldwide network scale, the
expertise and the financial capabilities to help our
customers expand globally,” he said.
