Following its successful launch of operations in São Paulo, internet exchange (IX) operator DE-CIX announced it is expanding its presence in Brazil via its newest interconnection hub, DE-CIX Rio de Janeiro. The IX features distributed infrastructure across multiple data centers in the city and is now operational, with the first 10 networks connected, including Sjnet Telecomunicações and Nexuslink Datacenter.
The launch of DE-CIX in Rio provides local companies, ISPs, cloud platforms and corporate networks with access to a neutral, high-performance platform for direct traffic exchange (peering) and multi-cloud interconnection. In addition, DE-CIX has interconnected its IX infrastructure so networks in Rio can directly exchange traffic with peers at DE-CIX São Paulo, DE-CIX New York and across the broader North American and global DE-CIX ecosystem, the company said.
For U.S. operators, the expansion is intended to open new, high-performance routes into Brazil’s growing digital market, reduce latency and improve resilience across the continent, officials said.
The DE-CIX expansion into Rio comes as the city’s digital infrastructure is trying to meet growing demand for reliable, high-quality connectivity. The IX is designed to strengthen the delivery of content, cloud services and corporate solutions, while offering faster, more efficient AI capabilities, the company said.
“Rio de Janeiro plays a strategic role in Brazil’s connectivity. Through our infrastructure, we aim to grow the region’s digital ecosystem, connecting the city to the world with efficiency, security and high performance,” said Darwin da Costa, business development director, Brazil, at DE-CIX. “The launch also strengthens international traffic exchange, ensuring that content and cloud providers in the U.S. and beyond can serve Latin American users with lower latency and greater efficiency.”
