CenturyLink has rebranded as Lumen Technologies.
The company does not intend to change its financial strategy or financial reporting as a result of this announcement. Effective with the opening of the trading day on Sept. 18, 2020, the company stock ticker will change from CTL to LUMN. The legal name of CenturyLink is expected to be formally changed to Lumen Technologies upon the satisfaction of all legal and regulatory requirements.
The Lumen platform helps customers capitalize on emerging technologies like smart cities, retail and industrial robotics, real-time virtual collaboration and automated factories, while powering today’s business applications that require high-performance networking and security. The platform brings together a highly interconnected global fiber network infrastructure, edge cloud capabilities, and security and communication and collaboration solutions to deliver a fast and secure foundation for the application and data services.
Lumen’s worldwide fiber network infrastructure and complementary capabilities deliver unique competitive advantages to customers in four key areas:
- Adaptive Networking: Lumen provides hybrid network solutions built to quickly respond to customers’ ever-changing data and application needs.
- Edge Cloud & IT Agility: Lumen enhances application experiences by delivering low-latency, high performance data access and by moving data and workloads closer to where customers need them.
- Connected Security: Lumen offers global threat intelligence, network-based security controls and deep security expertise to help customers protect their data and applications against constantly evolving threats.
- Communications & Collaboration: Lumen’s communication and collaboration solutions make it easy for people to stay connected, productive and engaged wherever they are located.
CenturyLink will remain a brand for residential and small business customers over traditional networks.
Lumen has also announced Quantum Fiber, a fully digital platform for delivering fiber-based products and services to residents and small businesses. Quantum Fiber will use the power of Lumen’s extensive fiber network and infrastructure.

Garrett Gee: As Lumen, we remain committed to ensuring our channel partners are best positioned to achieve long-term, profitable growth and can deliver the best possible experience for their customers. Channel partners play a critical role in helping us deliver successful technology solutions for our mutual customers, and each partnership is valuable to our long-term growth. That will not change.
CV: Will they have access to the same services to sell?
GG: Yes, our channel partners will have access to the same comprehensive portfolio of technology solutions and high level of support from Lumen. That includes access to solutions partners can leverage to grow, with a focus on edge computing, hybrid-cloud connectivity, adaptive networking and network-embedded security solutions.
CV: Does this create new opportunities for partners?
GG: We are focused on helping our partners and customers identify and use components of our platform in a way that meets their unique needs with an emphasis on delivering an efficient on-demand experience. Over the next several months, we will bring new capabilities to the market, starting with Edge Compute services. Edge is a platform that allows customers to run critical applications in a way that is integrated with high performance on-demand networking and integrated security and is the future of how we will do business.
