Contrivian, Big Network Agree to Merger

Global connectivity provider Contrivian and Big Network, which specializes in resilient multi-WAN connectivity software, have agreed to merge, subject to standard closing procedures. Together, the companies will offer software-defined performance, orchestration and transport-layer intelligence across hybrid network environments. The combined platform will enable performance across fiber, broadband, LTE/5G and LEO satellite networks, with the ability to dynamically adapt before outages or congestion affect application performance, officials said. The combined company will operate under the Contrivian name.

Big Network’s multi-WAN and edge connectivity technology will be directly integrated into Contrivian’s existing Lighthouse platform. Lighthouse is designed to continuously measure real-world network conditions and select optimal paths across available circuits to ensure application performance. The addition of Big Network’s ethernet transport-layer capabilities is expected to strengthen Contrivian’s ability to orchestrate traffic at the edge, improve failover behavior, and enhance resilience across diverse access types, officials said.

“The merger deepens our control at the network layer,” said Grant Kirkwood, CEO of Contrivian. “We are not just combining access types. We are orchestrating multi-modal connectivity with new intelligence. The result is a unified, software-defined architecture that protects application performance across fiber, wireless and LEO satellite. It enables Contrivian to serve the strictest requirements in networking and support mission-critical applications and services. We’re excited to welcome the Big Network team and build the next phase of Contrivian together.”

Big Network develops software designed to address complex edge deployment challenges, including resilient multi-WAN networking, static IP continuity over satellite and wireless networks, access to remote IT infrastructure, and transparent Layer 2 services.

Tom Daly, president and CEO of Big Network, will join the Contrivian board and serve as principal technologist.

“Big Network was built to solve real-world edge challenges at scale,” Daly said. “Integrating our platform with Contrivian’s architecture allows us to deliver deeper transport intelligence and more predictable connectivity outcomes across fiber, wireless and satellite networks. This is massive in the market, and we look forward to innovating together with the Contrivian team.”
