KDDI will launch its software-defined networking (SDN) platform with SD-WAN functionality for businesses in 37 countries beginning on December 5, as well as the KDDI Security Cloud.
Expanding cloud service usage and the proliferation of multilocation businesses is driving a need for SDN and SD-WAN. The KDDI SD-Network Platform, built in partnership with Versa Networks, provides visibility and flexible control over the network, and route optimization, so that cloud applications can be delivered over less expensive broadband connections rather than traditional MPLS circuits.
The KDDI Security Cloud meanwhile, available only to customers in Japan, makes shadow IT systems visible and enhances the protection of confidential data in the cloud.
“We are pleased that KDDI has selected Versa’s SD-WAN and SD-Security solutions to accelerate digital and cloud transformation for their business customers,” said Kelly Ahuja, CEO of Versa Networks. “KDDI will be deploying Versa’s Cloud IP Platform to deliver a cloud-native and policy-driven network and security architecture that delivers increased visibility and control, and enables enterprises to move faster.”
Customers can select or change the functions within their packages at will; for example, a business could start with the router function and traffic visibility, and then add traffic control for applications later. The traffic path for each application can be controlled depending on its usage or network quality. For example, when the quality in a path drops due to traffic congestion, the traffic can be automatically switched to an alternative path with better quality.
