Lumos, a 100 percent fiber-optic internet and total home Wi-Fi service provider, announced its inaugural expansion into Indiana, in Clark and Floyd counties. Lumos will build over 1,200 miles of 100 percent fiber-optic internet to provide Indiana’s homes and small businesses with fast, reliable internet access.
Lumos’ fiber-optic network will be available in more than 81,000 addresses in Charlestown, Jeffersonville and New Albany, as well as the towns of Sellersburg and Clarksville. With Lumos’ network, communities gain access to the latest fiber-optic technology, including faster speeds than traditional cable or DSL, that are designed to meet work, school, health, entertainment and everyday needs.
“We are excited to bring ultra-high-speed fiber internet to Hoosier communities,” said Lumos CEO, Brian Stading. “This expansion connects more families and businesses to the reliable connectivity needed to thrive in today’s digital world. As we grow our footprint in the midwest, Lumos remains committed to empowering Hoosier communities and fostering a brighter future for everyone we serve.”
Lumos’ expansion has received support from local Indiana leaders, eager to have a next-gen fiber-optic network to enable the gig economy in their communities.
“Charlestown is excited to welcome Lumos Fiber to our community,” said Charlestown mayor, Treva Hodges. “Reliable, high-quality internet service is critical infrastructure that enables our residents to remain connected whether for work or play.”
“We welcome this private investment in 21st century infrastructure within the town of Sellersburg by Lumos,” said Sellersburg town council president, Brad Amos. “We look forward to our residents and businesses utilizing this advanced fiber technology in this modern world. If the pandemic of 2020 taught us anything, it is how important reliable high-speed internet access is in our everyday lives.”
Lumos is working fast to bring fiber optic technology to the region, having broken ground earlier in March.
