Optelian Launches 100G Platform

Optical core networking specialist Optelian has launched the MPX-9110 flexible 100G platform, available in a compact, standalone 1RU form factor.  The platform is geared to support new bandwidth-intensive services while increasing transport efficiency for access, metro, long-haul, campus and data center interconnect applications from wholesalers and retail carriers.

Configurable as either a muxponder or transponder, the MPX-9110 can aggregate and transport any mix of 10Gbps, 40Gbps and 100Gbps services over a 100G OTN DWDM wavelength. When deployed in place of 10Gbps wavelengths, the MPX-9110 provides a tenfold increase in capacity per wavelength, enhancing ROI and deferring costly overbuilds for service providers.

The platform also allows network operators to support new services, providing 40G and 100G over existing infrastructure engineered to support 10Gbps connections.

“Internet usage, driven by bandwidth-intensive video streaming and enhanced user connectivity via multiple devices, will surge in the coming years,” said Optelian CEO David Weymouth. “Operators need innovative ways to leverage their existing infrastructure while increasing capacity. Our analysis indicates 100G offers a 30 percent cost-per-bit savings relative to 10G transport strategies. Optelian’s solution enables efficient scalability and supports the rapid deployment and management of new, revenue-generating services.”
