Report: Lumen Considering Selling Consumer Fiber Unit

According to Reuters, Lumen Technologies is considering the sale of its consumer fiber operations. The news outlet – citing “people familiar with the matter” – noted that this potential divestiture comes as the company looks to focus more on AI. It also presumably comes as Lumen looks to reduce debt.

Lumen is reportedly collaborating with Goldman Sachs to assess interest in the sale, with rumored interested parties including “industry rivals.”

At the same time, Reuters noted that Lumen would consider selling only a portion of these operations or entering into a joint venture. Either way, negotiations remain at an “early stage” with no guaranteed agreement.

A potential deal, Reuters noted, would necessitate a split of Lumen’s fiber business, as Lumen does not intend to sell its enterprise fiber operations. Sources claim that a sale could be valued at $6-9 billion.
