The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) awarded Verizon Public Sector a series of Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) task orders to “modernize legacy network infrastructure.” This rollout includes data, voice, unified communications (UC), video services and enterprise applications for the agency’s 20,000 users.
The partnership, it was noted, will support a “highly secure, converged data and voice network across nearly 1,000 locations.”
Specifically, Verizon’s first task order will focus on driving “innovative” technology adoption via custom managed services to support enterprise connectivity. The IT backbone will include new network architecture design for building a managed network with data, voice and toll-free services.
A second task order, meanwhile, will continue Verizon’s existing work to transform the DOL’s audio and web conferencing services, while a third will allow for the immediate delivery of content delivery network services. Regarding the third order, Verizon Public Sector will evolve to provide improved capabilities, create an enterprise-level cloud environment and provide a foundation for implementing Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS).
Additional task orders include:
- Addressing the DOL’s Managed Trusted Internet Protocol Service, installing ports for seven data centers, nationwide.
- Supporting Unified Communications Services (UCS) deployment to accommodate 20,000 end users.
- Transitioning DOL’s co-located hosting service requirements from its previous General Services Administration (GSA) Networx contract to the EIS contract vehicle.
