Alpheus Communications, which provides metro-regional fiber and networking solutions in Texas , is expanding its data center in downtown Austin.
This latest expansion is driven by demand for premier data center space from companies building public, private and hybrid cloud environments requiring 100-percent uptime and fiber connectivity, the company said.
The facility is located at 1905 E. 6th St., just blocks from I-35 and less than two miles from the state Capitol building.
“Our 6th Street data center is unique because it’s just a few minutes from Austin’s central business district, it’s convenient to freeways, and most important, because our fiber network hub is in the same facility, Alpheus clients don’t have to source network and colocation services from separate providers,” said Scott Widham, CEO of Alpheus. “Alpheus simplifies things for businesses by bundling network and data center solutions on one contract and under one roof. Companies are rapidly expanding their cloud environments, and that’s creating significant demand for the premier network and data center services that Alpheus provides, not only in Austin, but throughout Texas where we have the most extensive metro fiber footprint of any provider.”
Alpheus’ 6th Street data center offers diverse fiber routes and connections to more than 75 carriers. In addition to serving many enterprise business customers, for the past two years Alpheus has provided network services and Internet connectivity from its 6th Street hub to the South by Southwest (SXSW) entertainment event. This year, Alpheus will double 2013 bandwidth levels and provide 2GB Internet access to SXSW, delivering connectivity directly to many venues.
