American Tower announced the release of its 2023 sustainability executive report, which outlines its sustainability strategy and provides an overview of the progress made across the three pillars of its program: environment, social and governance.
“At American Tower, we seek to embed sustainability into our core operations,” said American Tower president and CEO, Steve Vondran. “In 2023, we further reduced our greenhouse gas emissions, largely due to the continued success of our Power-as-a-Service program. This initiative focuses on renewable energy generation, energy efficiency and advanced energy storage systems, and has played a crucial role in bolstering our environmental efforts. Additionally, our growing Digital Communities program has enhanced education, healthcare access and financial literacy in underserved markets. I’m proud of our employees’ commitment to supporting our stakeholders while making a positive global impact.”
Report highlights include:
- Achieving continued reduction in combined scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions
- Increasing on-site renewable energy generation by 40 percent, globally, growing capacity from 87 MW to 120 MW across over 18,000 sites while producing over 100 gigawatt hours of clean energy
- Distributing over $4 million through workplace giving and matching programs, volunteer events, disaster-relief donations and contributions
