Barracuda Enhances Support for AWS

Barracuda Networks has added additional support for Amazon Web Services (AWS) for data backup.

Barracuda Backup is an integrated end-to-end solution that provides customers, resellers, and MSPs with the ability to replicate to their own AWS Simple Storage Service (S3) bucket. Organizations using Barracuda Backup now have the ability to replicate data from either an on-premises physical or virtual backup appliance to AWS.

“We’ve seen many customers who are heavily invested in AWS, and this announcement opens up a new market segment for VARs. Barracuda is a trusted partner with strategic vision and strong investments in public cloud,” said Allan Hurst, director of project management at KIS IT Solutions & Services, a Barracuda partner. “We look forward to extending the latest Barracuda Backup updates to our mutual customer base to offer them additional flexibility and choice for data replication.”

It doesn’t require users to deploy compute resources in AWS to enable the replication process, and it doesn’t require that users become AWS infrastructure experts in order to install and configure replication and restore capabilities. Users who are familiar with Barracuda solutions can also use Barracuda Cloud Control administration console.

An effective data protection strategy involves replicating data offsite to protect against local disasters and data loss, yet many organizations do not have the resources for a second data center at a remote site, and need a simple, cost-effective solution to replicate backups. Customers, and the resellers and service providers they are working with, are increasingly turning to the cloud as a solution. According to a new Barracuda global research report, “Unlocking the Benefits of Public Cloud,” the majority of organizations surveyed said they use public cloud for storage (83 percent), followed by data recovery (62 percent).

“Efficient data protection, in the cloud or on-premises, includes a strategy to rapidly recover data in the event of data loss or disaster, as well as the many security practices involved in preventing unauthorized access. As a security and data protection company committed to the cloud, Barracuda is uniquely positioned to help organizations with these challenges,” explained Rod Mathews, senior vice president and general manager, data protection solutions at Barracuda. “Barracuda’s current replication technology allows organizations to securely and efficiently send data to the Barracuda Cloud or another backup appliance with minimal configuration. The new release gives customers and resellers adopting public cloud the flexibility to replicate data to AWS with the same simplicity – providing a choice of deployment options with the ability to maintain ownership and control of cloud data.”
