Colt Expands Its Presence in Spain

Colt Technology Services has increased its coverage in Spain, adding 22 new provinces to its local reach in the country.

The project, which commenced in July, will be completed in September. Provinces and cities such as Bilbao, San Sebastián, Granada, Pamplona, Vigo, Alicante, Toledo, Guadalajara, Valladolid, Burgos, Córdoba, Girona and Vitoria will all be accessible as part of the Colt IQ Network.

This expansion builds upon the existing metro connectivity in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia and aligns with Colt’s overarching strategy of enabling businesses digital transformations by providing agile, high bandwidth connectivity solutions. It will also ensure that Colt is best placed in Spain to assist businesses operating at both a local and global level.

By connecting these provinces in Spain, more organizations will have access to the dense Colt IQ Network, which is comprised of more than 850 data centers and 27,000 global on net buildings.

According to Cisco’s Visual Networking Index, Spain is set to see its IP traffic grow three-fold from 2016 to 2021, which is a compound annual growth rate of 23 percent. The region is also becoming increasingly important as several leading OTT players have commenced a project to connect Bilbao and the US via a subsea cable, with the aim to safeguard connectivity across the Atlantic.

“When it comes to global, high bandwidth, connectivity solutions, Spain is an important market for Colt and our global customers,” said Joan Monraba, country manager, Colt Technology Services Spain.

“As global bandwidth demands continue to explode, and more and more businesses rely on infrastructure housed in the cloud, organizations are constantly looking for diversity when it comes to connectivity. By bolstering its presence in Spain, and also in key business hubs around the world, Colt is cementing its position as the key partner to drive the next wave of growth for businesses.”

Colt also recently launched in the US, further extending the reach of the Colt IQ Network. Colt’s US expansion has been implemented through a combination of partnering with important data centers in 13 cities, as well as by bolstering Colt’s international submarine cable capacity.

As part of this coverage expansion in Spain, connectivity will be boosted to 1Gbps across the 22 new locations.
