Businesses can search for, procure, deploy, and manage connections using natural language via AI agents on the DE-CIX platform, announced the cloud and internet exchange operator. DE-CIX systems are now reachable via the open-source DE-CIX Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which is available immediately as a download for integration into all compatible AI applications and agent platforms, including LLMs, that support MCP.
MCP servers enable interoperability and easy integration, eliminating the complexity of dealing with multiple APIs. For DE-CIX customers, this means they can manage their network infrastructure using agents based on the AI tool of their choice, bringing DE-CIX closer to customers and simplifying interaction with its systems.
The DE-CIX MCP server accompanies and supports network engineers by allowing them to task agents with finding connectivity options such as cloud on-ramps, booking and scaling connectivity services, and providing real-time insights into service status, explained CE-CIX executive. It can also write code for building automations involving DE-CIX services, reducing the need to consult lengthy documentation to manually look up API operations.
“A recent DE-CIX survey of IT and infrastructure decision makers found that IT teams are, on average, still spending more than 11 hours, or a full working day, each week troubleshooting connectivity issues,” said Dr. Thomas King, CTO of DE-CIX. “Network architecture is becoming increasingly complex, meaning that network operators and enterprise IT teams are faced with multiple challenges to build and operate their infrastructure according to their needs.”
The DE-CIX MCP server, based on the open-source standard IX-API, responds to the needs of customers for simpler interconnection, continued King. “This is the next step in the ongoing process of automating the DE-CIX platform, making interconnection on-demand, programmable, observable, modular and secure.”
DE-CIX has been a key contributor to and supporter of the IX-API project since its initiation in 2019. IX-API is at the forefront of shaping the future of Internet, Cloud, and AI Exchange standards, facilitating seamless communication and collaboration among diverse stakeholders in the digital ecosystem. As a further step on the path to full interconnection automation, the new MCP server will be developed further on a continuous basis.
The beta version of the DE-CIX MCP server is a downloadable tool that can run on network engineers’ own systems. It is compatible with all LLMs and any agents based on these. Network engineers interested in testing the usability can access a sandboxed version here (via web): https://agent-beta.ix-api.net
