Internet exchange (IX) operator DE-CIX has begun peering and interconnection services in São Paulo. The new IX is distributed across three data centers: Equinix SP4, Elea SPO1 and Ascenty SP4. DE-CIX is onboarding its first 20 customers in the region, including TBC Azion Technologies, the company said.
Via DE-CIX São Paulo, companies in the region can gain access to local peering and network interconnection as well as remote peering, cloud exchange and multi-cloud routing functionalities. By joining the exchange, companies also can connect directly to thousands of network operators, ISPs, cloud and content providers, and corporate networks from more than 100 countries worldwide, officials said.
“Being a part of the global DE-CIX ecosystem offers the potential of an enormous diversity of networks now accessible in São Paulo,” said Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX. “The growing digital economy in Brazil requires state-of-the-art connectivity, ensuring that data exchange takes place fast, efficiently and securely, as local as possible and as global as necessary. The new IX opens a complementary offering that further enriches the country as the second largest market in the world in terms of number of networks.”
The new IX is integrated into DE-CIX’s global ecosystem via IX connections in New York; Lisbon, Portugal; Madrid; and Frankfurt, Germany. The connectivity leverages several transatlantic routes via the Atlantic South-North and South-South connectivity corridors. This allows connected Brazilian networks to reach thousands of local, regional and international networks, the company said.
Azion is a web platform that enables businesses to build, secure and scale modern applications on a fully managed global infrastructure. It has a presence in more than 100 data centers worldwide, according to Rafael Umann, CEO of Azion.
“Our platform ensures resilience, security and performance for critical and AI workloads,” said Umann. Through its interconnection with DE-CIX, Azion can expand its global network to “deliver low latency and high availability to our clients, regardless of user location,” he said.
The launch of DE-CIX São Paulo will increases national competitiveness by expanding options for network operators in Brazil, company officials said. Brazil has approximately 165 million internet users and more than 10,000 networks. DE-CIX chose São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro to install its IXs interconnection points due to strategic partnerships with data center operators in those cities, the company said.
With its entry into South America, DE-CIX now operates on five continents. The company offers interconnection services in about 60 locations in Europe, Africa, North America, South America, the Middle East and Asia. It’s accessible from data centers in more than 600 cities around the world.
