DE-CIX Opens IX in Helsinki; Celebrates 10-year Partnership with Nokia

DE-CIX, a global internet exchange (IX) operator and home to a large carrier and data center neutral interconnection ecosystem, announced its newest exchange, in Helsinki, Finland. The IX is available in Equinix’s data centers in Helsinki (HE-CIX).

Customers in Finland can now benefit from direct access to more than 50 clouds, 2,000-plus local and international networks and more than 250 data centers in Germany, Southern Europe, the United States and Asia – with a single contract and full flexibility, including a comprehensive interconnection consultation.

In addition, DE-CIX in Finland will act as a digital hub for regional connectivity, enabling local networks low-latency interconnection and localization of global content, while increasing network stability, scalability, and security. The DE-CIX interconnection and cloud platform also offers advanced service features and automation, including access to the DE-CIX self-service portal and the DE-CIX API.

Along with the launch, DE-CIX and Nokia celebrate the 10th anniversary of their partnership at Nokia’s headquarters in Espoo, close to the Finnish capital.

The DE-CIX Apollon interconnection and cloud platform includes cloud routing services for companies to manage their hybrid and multi-cloud scenarios and gain control of their data beyond the public internet.

With the approach of one access, all clouds, and every network, DE-CIX brings its InterconnectionFLEX service to Finland, which provides enterprises with a complete interconnection package as a holistic solution for cloud connectivity, virtual private network interconnects and direct interconnection among networks, also known as “peering”.

DE-CIX’s and Nokia’s relationship, which is based on joint research and development efforts and standardization initiatives, has resulted in reliable, low-latency and seamless peering and interconnection services for customers around the world for more than 10 years.

Nokia provides innovative hardware – such as the newly developed FP5 network processor, designed to support 800 Gigabit Ethernet. This technology can be found in the Nokia 7750 SR-14s models, which DE-CIX uses at Europe’s largest IX, DE-CIX Frankfurt.

“Having worked for over a decade to drive our global expansion – with Nokia always responding to the specific regional needs and requirements with world-class hardware – we’re delighted to bring our future-proof interconnection services to Nokia’s homeland of Finland. As we provide local and internationally acting enterprises with a modern, scalable infrastructure to gain control of their business-critical data journey, we are pleased to continue to have Nokia as a trusted partner. We are looking forward to our joint response to tomorrow’s world, where emerging technologies such as the future digital applications for the immersive Internet are also already defining the new standards for latency, data security, and redundancy,” said Dr. Thomas King, CTO of DE-CIX.

DE-CIX plans to extend its presence in the Nordics with two additional internet exchanges in Denmark and two locations in Norway are ready for service.

The company offers its interconnection services in more than 40 metro-markets in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America.

Accessible from data centers in more than 600 cities world-wide, DE-CIX interconnects thousands of network operators (carriers), internet service providers (ISPs), content providers and enterprise networks from more than 100 countries, and offers peering, cloud, and interconnection services.
