Digi International, a global provider of IoT connectivity products, services and solutions, has released an SGP.32 compatible eSIM accessory designed to bring comprehensive SIM management to its connected device portfolio. By aligning commercial deployments with GSMA .32 standards, Digi officials say the company is one of the first IoT solution providers to set a benchmark for interoperability and lifecycle governance in distributed networking.
The move comes as global eSIM adoption accelerates. For example, Juniper Research projects that 4.9 billion cellular connections will use eSIMs by 2030, up from 1.2 billion this year. In addition, a GSMA intelligence study found that 81 percent of enterprises view eSIM as essential to their IoT strategies. These trends underscore the need for validated orchestration platforms that can scale with evolving infrastructure demands, officials said.
Though enterprises face challenges in managing devices, data and multi-carrier connectivity as they expand across regions and networks, visibility, governance and control can be harmonized across global operations via distributed networking, Digi officials said.
Digi eSIM uses a pre-installed “bootstrap” data plan as part of the management package to help customers quickly deploy a cellular WAN-only device in the field without manual staging, switch carriers or carrier rate plans without needing to roll a truck as well as reduce mechanical and theft problems that occur with removable SIMs. It’s also designed to enable quick recovery from carrier outages or performance degradation as well as optimize cost and performance, while improving carrier agility, the company said.
“Reliable, easy-to-manage connectivity continually rises to the top as a critical need for our cellular customers,” said Landon Reese, VP of product management at Digi. “Using the pre-loaded bootstrap profile for instant out-of-box connectivity, the Digi eSIM accessory supports simplified carrier-agnostic connectivity management and provides a full feature set that delivers on the promise of eSIM.”
Digi eSIM is made to support single pane of glass management via Digi Remote Manager, extending the capabilities of Digi EX, IX and TX routers with zero-touch provisioning. Packaged as a rugged 2FF three-in-one punchout card supporting up to eight profiles with remote carrier switching, the accessory is intended for fleets, retail and critical infrastructure, officials said.
