Digium has acquired VocalCloud, a provider of cloud-based VoIP solutions, which will be renamed Digium Cloud Services.
The subsidiary will be devoted to rolling out Digium’s cloud strategy for small to midsized businesses, via channel partners. It will start off with ramping up the focus on Switchvox Cloud, the hosted version of its Switchvox business phone system that the two launched earlier this year. A variety of unified communications (UC) products and services are set for release in the coming months, the company said.
“Digium’s acquisition of VocalCloud is part of a focused strategy to position the company within the rapidly growing UC-as-a service (UCaaS) market,” said Danny Windham, CEO of Digium. “Digium Cloud Services provides the necessary foundation and infrastructure to offer new cloud-based products and services for SMBs, as well as users of the Asterisk open source project. In fact, new developments are already underway.”
Digium has ensured its offerings are channel-friendly and available through its broad network of partners. Given the product’s architecture, Switchvox can be delivered as a hosted or premises-based solution, and customers’ systems can be easily migrated from one to the other. This enables channel partners to provide solutions that best meet their customers’ changing needs.
“We are pleased to join forces with Digium and continue servicing SMB customers in the cloud market,” said Stagg Shelton, president of VocalCloud. “It’s great to see our track record of performance and reliability as a company now become a key component in the strategy for Digium Cloud Services. We look forward to supporting Digium’s customers and channel partners.”
