EdgeConneX, which hosts content at the edge of the network, has partnered with cloud specialist TelNet to develop a new Tier III data center in Southeast Michigan near Detroit, in the city of Southfield.
Poised for a November 2014 launch, the newest Edge Data Center combines EdgeConneX design, advanced engineering and rapid deployment capabilities coupled with TelNet’s greater Michigan go-to-market expertise and customer service focus.
EdgeConneX is deploying Edge Data Centers that are strategically positioned nearest to network provider aggregation points, in a strategy that boosts low-latency data delivery as well as improved quality of service by caching content closer to the end user. The company has more than 14 Edge Data Centers already in operation or under construction.
“Our Edge Data Centers are designed and built to adhere to the highest technical standards in the industry and boast a new and proprietary online data center infrastructure management system (DCIM) that provides real-time visibility into each center’s operation,” the company said. “This DCIM monitoring tool will be customized for TelNet’s use in providing service to its customers.”
The data center will complement TelNet’s existing redundant network to further its offerings for both enterprise and wholesale service offerings, and will be providing colocation, managed services, virtualization and data storage.
“EdgeConneX is locating data centers strategically throughout the U.S. to reshape the way the Internet functions, and Detroit is an important location. They chose TelNet because of our strong reputation in the region, local expertise and commitment to bringing the best-of-breed cloud, next-generation network, and managed services to the marketplace,” said Pat O’Leary, CEO of TelNet. “The partnership with EdgeConneX will provide a powerful combination and competitive advantage to businesses in Southeast Michigan.”
