Keeper Security: AI is Driving New, Advanced Cyber Attacks

New research from Keeper Security, a provider of zero-trust and zero-knowledge cybersecurity software, noted that the rise and continued advancement of AI is transforming cybersecurity, introducing new complexities in threat detection and response.

The 2024 Top Data Threats report noted that – despite organizations implementing AI-related policies – there has been a “noticeable” gap in overall preparedness.

Of note, 84 percent of IT and security leaders find AI-powered tools made phishing and smishing attacks even more difficult to detect. As a result, approximately 81 percent of organizations have implemented AI usage policies for employees, with 77 percent of leaders stating they are either extremely or very familiar with best practices for AI security.

Additinonally, 51 percent of security leaders identify AI-powered attacks as the most-serious threat facing their organizations, while 35 percent feel their organizations are least prepared to combat these attacks, compared to other types of cyber threats.

As a result, organizations are focusing on key strategies such as:

  • Data encryption, with 51 percent of IT leaders incorporating it into their security strategy.
  • Employee training and awareness, as 45 percent of organizations are focusing on enhancing their training programs.
  • Advanced threat-detection systems, with 41 percent of organizations investing in these systems.
