Fiber-optic internet and home Wi-Fi service provider Lumos announced a $246 million investment in DuPage and Cook County, Ill., near Chicago. This funding will contribute to an inaugural expansion of capabilities for area homes and businesses.

Engineering work is now underway to add infrastructure to meet growing digital demand for faster and more reliable services.

“We are proud to bring critical infrastructure improvement to the area as the first fiber provider for these communities and anticipate more growth for Lumos throughout the state and region,” said Lumos CEO, Brian Stading.

Following the rollout, Lumos’ 100% fiber-optic internet will be available in:

  • DuPage County – Naperville, Bolingbrook, Woodridge, Lisle, Wheaton, W. Chicago, Winfield, Glen Ellyn, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Addison, Wayne, Bloomingdale, Hanover Park, Itasca and Roselle.
  • Cook County – Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Roselle and Schaumburg.

In addition to bring ultra-fast fiber internet and reliable services to the areas, Lumos’ expansion will also provide new job opportunities for residents.

“This expansion to Illinois aims to bring fiber-optic internet to underserved and unserved areas,” said Lumos director of market development, Grace Simrall, “bolstering economic growth and benefiting the communities in and around DuPage and Cook Counties for generations.”
