Microsoft outlined plans to invest more than $80 billion toward new AI data center development throughout the U.S. in FY25.
“As we look into the future, it’s clear that artificial intelligence is poised to become a world-changing GPT,” said the company in a recent blog. “AI promises to drive innovation and boost productivity in every sector of the economy. The United States is poised to stand at the forefront of this new technology wave, especially if it doubles down on its strengths and effectively partners internationally.”
Microsoft also noted that it has witnessed this development, firsthand, due to its partnership with OpenAI, the rise in firms such as Anthropic and xAI and its own AI-enabled software platforms.
Microsoft on track to build out AI-enabled datacenters to specifically train AI models and deploy AI and cloud-based applications, worldwide, with more than have of this investment to take place domestically.
“The key,” it continued, “will be to develop a national AI talent strategy that equips Americans of all ages and backgrounds with the opportunity to acquire the AI skills needed for economic advancement. A key opportunity for most people will be to develop an AI fluency that will enable them to use AI in their jobs, much as they use laptops, smartphones, software applications and the internet today.”
