OPSWAT, a U.S.-based critical infrastructure protection provider, announced its acquisition of Fend Incorporated, a data pipeline and cybersecurity company that specializes in securing operational technology against ransomware and other evolving threats.
Fend’s hardware-based technology creates secure, one-way communication channels, allowing data to flow between networks while physically blocking reverse transmission. Once limited to high-security applications such as nuclear power plants, this technology is now accessible to enhance efficiency, reduce downtime and support secure remote monitoring.
The transaction is expected to position OPSWAT as a leader in data diodes and unidirectional gateways, offering a range of solutions. Fend’s advanced connectivity options – including ethernet, cellular and serial connections – also expand OPSWAT’s ability to support emerging technology such as 5G and Industry 4.0, while maintaining legacy systems’ resilience.
Building on previous transactions such as InQuest and Bayshore Networks, OPSWAT is expanding its capacity to secure both large industrial facilities and smaller sites such as water utilities, which require robust protection but have limited data needs.
