TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) has signed a wholesale global IP transit service agreement with Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), the leading telecommunications provider in the Philippines. The strategic partnership gives PLDT a foothold in new markets, like North America, Europe and other parts of Asia, so it can deliver service to businesses in those regions.
PLDT is Philippines’ largest fixed and mobile operator serving a population of 100 million people spanning more than 7,000 islands. Now, it will use direct connections to multiple TSIC 10Gbps ports across three continents to expand its reach internationally.
The ‘anywhereization’ of communications is changing the way companies look to expand their network reach,” said Erik Hallberg, president at TSIC. “To date, a huge amount of fixed and mobile operators across the globe trust TSIC’s wholly-owned and operated global fiber backbone to deliver network capacity and reliable, global connectivity to the broadest market. Our global footprint enables PLDT to extend its reach throughout North America, Asia and Europe without incurring the expenditure or complexity associated with building and managing its own global network.”
Genaro Sanchez, vice president of networks at PLDT, added, “Leveraging TSIC, PLDT now delivers our services via a secure and reliable network that provides the most direct routes to our customers in the Philippines and overseas, especially Europe. The partnership has resulted in the highest quality experience for our customers and a cost-effective network solution, allowing us to maintain PLDT’s mission of attractive pricing, service quality, content and coverage. In addition to driving opportunities and business wins for PLDT today, TSIC has ensured we remain poised for future growth, offering flexibility in the choice of multiple ports up to 100Gbps.”
