Twilio has launched the Elastic SIP Trunking, available to channel partners, with global termination and local phone numbers in 50 countries, on-demand provisioning and elastic scaling, delivered via the cloud.
Traditional SIP trunking offerings in contrast typically require custom quotes and manual provisioning, which once configured provide only basic voice connectivity.
The offering’s features include:
- Numbers on a SIP Trunk that can send and receive SMS and MMS (in some markets).
- Data-Driven Routing that leverages real-time quality measurements to dynamically route outbound calls to the best carrier
- One-click call recording at the SIP layer, with no additional hardware or per-user fees
- Failover to TwiML scripting to specify what failover logic should apply to replicate on-premise IP-PBX functions if a local internet outage occurs.
- Multi-tenanted SIP Trunks with per-tenant billing records and logs, to track usage by department, account or use case all under one master account.
“The traditional SIP trunking product and buying experience is outdated,” said Jeff Lawson, CEO and co-founder of Twilio. “Twilio believes by providing access to the reliable global carrier connectivity that Twilio has long used for other services, customers will finally have access to a modern SIP trunking service that lets them innovate far faster than they’ve been able to with old-world SIP Trunking offerings. We can’t wait to see what customers build when the walls that hamper innovation continue to crumble.”
