China Unicom Launches Big Data Cloud Initiative

China Unicom has launched Wo-Cloud, a cloud computing and big data brand.

In addition to the Wo Cloud and Wo Cloud V2.0 series cloud computing products, it also debuted a self-service gateway www.wocloud.cn and two cloud computing data centers in Hohhot and Langfang. China Unicom’s dedicated service cloud will be utilized for managed service providers along with government and enterprise customers. For service providers (including software and content application partners), there will be an open-service cloud constructed as a SaaS-level product.

Wo Cloud V2.0’s product development model utilizes the OpenStack technology structure – a customizable hardware with high-speed iterations.

“China Unicom will rely on its advantages in network resources, infrastructure, mobile internet technology, scope of customers, and dedicated service,: said China Unicom President Lu Yimin. “We will integrate these strengths to create a brand that will work to make China Unicom a world-leading cloud computing service provider.”

He added, “China Unicom will focus on IaaS- and PaaS-level products for 3G, broadband and public customers by creating a public service cloud.”

Looking toward the future, China Unicom will continue to increase investments in its cloud-computing infrastructure, it said, and is establishing an open-cloud environment and a modern-operations management environment.
